"did not appear to be related to terrorism"
HUH!

You find a guy, almost dead in a hotel room with castor beans and a white powder that turns out to be ricin and it's not related to terrorism? WTF, is the passed out guy middle-aged and white? If there was a hint of brown skin you bet it would be terrorism.

I guess everyone in Vegas cooks up ricin in extended stay hotels for a hobby. Maybe they love chemistry that much.

"The man’s identity, age and hometown were being withheld on Friday as investigators tried to determine why ricin, as well as castor beans from which is it derived, were found in a room at an Extended Stay America hotel one mile west of the Las Vegas Strip."
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/29/us/31cnd-ricin.html?ref=health

Happens every day, nothing really to see here. Lets here from our most trusted agency:

"F.B.I. national spokesman Richard Kolko said the incident did not appear to be related to terrorism “based on the information gathered so far.”

Yeah!!!!!! the F.B.I. is on the case. The locals are stumped though:

"Still, Deputy Chief Suey said police could not explain why the ricin was present or what its intent might have been."

Conspiracy theorists wrap your paws around this, was someone drumming up a little fear in a resort town and had a little spill? Funny huh?

2. You hit it right on the head
If this guy were brown-skinned, they would definitely be treating this as a "terror incident".

3. if we had a real media
someone would ask the FBI guy why it isn't terrorism? You don't make ricin by accident do you?

4. maybe he's one of our terrrorists?
reminds me of this story..

Houstonians stopped with $500,000 in Pa.

Byline: Anne Marie Kilday

Apr. 20--Pennsylvania authorities have confiscated a half million dollars they found in the cab of a truck driven by two Houston men who tried to enter a nuclear power plant. The men have not been charged with any crime. Pennsylvania State Police seized the money because the men denied ownership and because there was an indication by a police dog that drug residue was possibly on the cash. The men were outside the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station in Shippingport, Pa., Tuesday afternoon to pick up a large tool container. The plant, one of the nation's first large nuclear generating facilities, is undergoing a $300 million upgrade. When plant security guards discovered the pair had a duffel bag containing $504,230 in 10 large bundles of bills wrapped in plastic and duct tape, they contacted local and state police.

According to the Beaver County Times, the men were stopped at a security entrance to the plant, which is routine. Security guards conducted a routine search of the truck and found the duffel bag in the sleeper portion of the rig. The bag was locked, but when plant security guards asked one of the Houston men to unlock the bag, he said he did not have a key. A guard then cut the lock off and discovered the cash -- in $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills. The men called their boss for instructions. Their boss told them to leave the power plant.

According to Pennsylvania State Trooper Joshua Thomas, the men were stopped by Shippingport police about a mile south of the plant. Because the incident started at a nuclear plant, members of a joint terrorism task force composed of state police and the FBI also were called in. William Crowley , a spokesman for the Pittsburgh office of the FBI, said Wednesday, "We have no indication that there was ever any terrorism or threat to the plant." The newspaper also reported that a state police dog detected the scent of drugs in the truck. State police then obtained a search warrant, but found no drugs or other illegal items. anne.kilday@chron.com

8. Nothing....nothing at all
they just went on their merry way. I recall they worked for KBR, and one of them 'lost' or 'misplaced' his license. Thank God they weren't taking steroids.

6. It's just an excuse to bring up the word "terrorism"
Which the media does with every remotely possible incident. It is a habit they developed in the months after 911.

Even SEC reform was discussed in terms of terrorism in those days.

Now it's calmed down but only so far.

Nobody would think it was terrorism; it's most likely a murder. But the media thinks it is fun to try to scare people with the idea.
