Here we go again with the fucking slow-ass blog ads
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 11:46 AM by jgraz
I'm seeing 45 second load times for any DU page that has a blog ad. Can't we have a subscription level where we don't see any ads at all? I'd happily sign up.

5. This is insane. The site is useless right now.
I may actually have to go outside and talk to someone in person! :scared:

2. There's a way to put the ads on ignore; hopefully someone will tell
you how. But FWIW, I'm not having that problem.

8. I do have them on ignore but the site loads really slowly.
To do it, you go to "edit your preferences". It's the last choice on the page.

10. Doesn't look like it. Not having trouble with anything else?
I think Elad just doesn't like the SF Bay Area.

load time is pretty slow this morning. Sunspots?

3. Use the forum jump link
at the bottom right of your screen in each forum. That way you bypass the latest and greatest pages. That's what I'm doing at the moment. Much faster.

You have a star, and therefore, you can turn the ads off! Go into Options, and then into Edit your preferences... Way down at the bottom of that list is the option you seek! Happy hunting!

7. We can turn off Google ads, but not the blog ads on the side
Those are what are causing the slowdown. If I go to Latest, Greatest or My DU, I have to wait for those ads before I see any content.

With the "Adblock Plus" and "NoScript" extensions. Never see an ad again.

17. Turning off JavaScript on Safari works as well
Of course, any website that depends on JS is now useless.

23. The button that NoScript pops up...
In the yellow bar, the button will be marked "options", you can turn it back on there.

As an extra benefit, NoScript pretty much makes your browser bulletproof against security problems.

I am using Netscape 7.2 and I don't see any ads here. The only time I see any ads is if I am logged off.
