Take your mind off tomorrow for a moment. In the past I've
marveled on this board about CDDB's ability to recognize CDs I made from forty plus year-old LPs. I've had it explained to me (sort of) how CDDB does that. Now I made a CD from an old album (the late Dan Fogelberg's "Neder Lands") which iTunes identified and followed with the words "(vinyl transfer)"! How dey do dat?????

1. I think that it reads the gaps in between tracks
pretty cool.

2. The thing is I often have to set the gaps between the tracks
myself by moving a gizmo in the software with my mouse. I can't believe my hand is that steady....

3. You can zoom in on the slider
then every milimeter you move your mouse being 10 seconds that same movement is only 2 seconds. Does that make sense?

Honestly this whole process is why I'm not collecting vinyl. I love records and the tangible part of putting it on the turntable then dropping the needle. But it's just too much work.

4. I get the vinyl, put it on a CD and then put the CD on iTunes, I can
get great old albums for what one track costs from iTunes. Since the condition of the cover means nothing to me I get some real bargains. Right now I am recording a jazz LP that my local vinyl place got from a radio station. I paid a quarter for it, the cover has all sorts of stickers on it indicating when they played it on the air, that doesn't bother me-they took really good care of their vinyl.

I see what you are saying, but the silent space between tracks doesn't interest me, so long as I get the music I can put up with having the space before one track being 2 seconds and another being 1.4 seconds.
