The Two Sides Of The Law
Edited on Tue Mar-04-08 09:30 AM by ThomWV
There are laws which restrict the activities of public officials and there are laws that allow public officials to restrict your activities. They, or public officials, can be stopped from doing wrong and you can be jailed for doing wrong, its all quite legal. But something has happened. Now they, the Bush Administration, this Unitary Executive, can not be stopped from doing wrong and you can be jailed for doing no wrong at all.

Our Government has always had the authority to secretly watch and listen to citizens suspected of the violation of our laws. It did, however, require the presentation of sufficient evidence to a disinterested judge that a law was being violated. But something has happened. Now, with no presentation of evidence to anyone you may be monitored because the Government finds you to be a person of interest.

So understand where we are: An Executive, which is accountable to no law, can monitor your activities and communications and should it find them interesting it can whisk you off the streets and detain you. It has a history of moving detainees around the world, it has a history of torturing detainees and we are left with no heart to stop it.

This is where we are today.

1. someone needs to explain this to Congress....
Preferably in simple, easy to understand language. They get confused and distracted easily. Better yet, someone should find a way to link gov't surveillance with baseball players using steroids.
