War on drugs reaches new low -- BAN THE BAGGIES!
What planet are these people from?

Sounds like Alderman Fioretti picked-up a few bags with the product still inside...

City may ban little baggies
COUNCIL | They're 'Marketing 101' for drug dealers, cop says

March 5, 2008
BY FRAN SPIELMAN City Hall Reporter

Tiny plastic bags used to sell small quantities of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and other drugs would be banned in Chicago, under a crackdown advanced Tuesday by a City Council committee.

Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) persuaded the Health Committee to ban possession of "self-sealing plastic bags under two inches in either height or width," after picking up 15 of the bags on a recent Sunday afternoon stroll through a West Side park.

Lt. Kevin Navarro, commanding officer of the Chicago Police Department's Narcotics and Gang Unit, said the ordinance will be an "important tool" to go after grocery stores, health food stores and other businesses. The bags are used by the thousand to sell small quantities of drugs at $10 or $20 a bag.

Navarro referred to the plastic bags as "Marketing 101 for the drug dealers." Many of them have symbols, allowing drug users to ask for "Superman" or "Blue Dolphin" instead of the drug itself, he said.

People who buy small amoutns of legally sold herbs
Small novelty items use them.

Shh! We have a whole drawer in the closet filled with these bags. They were bought so we could sell and ship some novelty items.

6. I like baggies
I am a quilter and I cut out the pieces to be sewn together and put them in a baggie so that I can carry it with me to hand sew when I'm not at home.

The zippered baggies don't fit in my handbag as well.

So here's an unusual use that doesn't involve anything illegal or nefarious.

23. My kid had a birthday party at one of those "fun centers" Sunday
and when they handed out tokens they came in those little baggies. So yesterday I'm at Costco shopping and when I go to pay, along with my money a couple of those little baggies fall out of my pocket. Man, did I get a look from the cashier. I thought laser beams were going to shoot out of her eyes and burn through my skull.

28. There used in retail by stores that sell small quantities of items
like beads, hundredweights of gold and some herbs. They're used by jewellers to keep findings separate and protected from the elements.

They're used in hospital pharmacies for unit doses of non formulary pills.

They have legitimate uses.

The drug dealers will either just go back to making waxed paper envelopes like they did before. I'm sure they haven't forgotten how to do it.

Next he'll ban coated paper that can be cut into 2-1/2 squares.

5. And what's to prevent them from using larger bags?
What do we do then? Ban them all? Let us suffer with freezer burn, and endure dried out bologna sandwiches for lunch?

I've heard sillier solutions, but I'm at a loss to recall them at this point. :eyes:

8. Now that we will have to resort to stuffing our sandwiches in with
the cocaine, all of it in larger bags, I guess we won't notice freezer burn that much!!

Only, I wonder how drugs were sold BEFORE those little baggies were invented?

Looks like the drug dealers will have to travel a few miles OUTSIDE of town to buy their contraband food wrap.

That'll smarten them up.

19. Let's ban shoes, because all drug dealers have them
and need them to walk around the neighborhood looking for baggies.

Meanwhile, I will continue to collect those tiny little bags that come with new clothes, holding a spare button or yarn.

I use them to bag up seeds from stuff I grow.
