I say we Nominate STEVEN COLBERT to HOST Next Year's Academy Awards
Seriously, what bushes do we need to beat and how many letters to WHOM can we WRITE to demand that Steven COLBERT be the Host of Next Year's Academy Awards?

I want someone who ROCKS NEXT YEAR! SOrry Ellen bores me, hate to say it - the Spielberg thing was funny, but I fast forwarded through most of her.

STEVEN COLBERT, STEVEN COLBERT!!!

2. WHAT... you gotta problem with Ellen?
I thought she did just fine.

You have to remember what country we're talking about here.
' Murica.

Steven Colbert is over the heads of most people in this country (except for us) and HE would be a disaster.

How 'bout Bill Maher!

That would make EVERY fundies head explode!

3. Oh my god! That's a great idea
I enjoyed Ellen very much. She's so relaxed and comfortable with a big audience. Steven would make it a wild and fun time. If they changed hosts every year it would be fine by me.

4. I thought Ellen was a perfect choice for this year....
Everyone is on political tenderhooks - I believe that the Academy may have wanted to keep things as apolitical SEEMING as possible - while at the same time, there were a lot of political messages more subtlely sent b/c of the winners of the Oscars, etc.

I personally saw some symbolism in the silhouetting (making something look different than it truly was)....I also liked (and I may be the only person on the planet that thinks/thought this)....I liked Ellen vacuuming around the well-heeled, highly coiffed Academy audience - to me it spoke of the fact that "behind it all - the glamour, the glitz, the schtick, there is a LOT of hard, ordinary, plain old work (and people who do that work) and WE all must continue to do that hard, practical work - it's not necessarily unpleasant, and it's not demeaning....it simply needs to be done.

That's my take on it.

Peace,
M_Y_H

6. I also liked her speech expressing sympathy for how stressed the winners would be ...
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 09:26 PM by Lisa
... having to get up onstage and run the risk of making fools of themselves in front of a worldwide television audience. How terrifying for them! (guilelessly, without a shred of self-pity!)

And her observation that those not getting the awards would at least not have to worry about going up there, maybe tripping along the way, and being tongue-tied or forgetting someone in their speeches ... beautiful. I'm going to console myself with that one, whenever I lose a nomination for anything.
