If this is true, it is upsetting. I guess Lieberman is the fly in their ointment, messing everything up.

Democrats Back Away From Iraq Plan

Democratic leaders backed away from aggressive plans to limit President Bush's war authority, the latest sign of divisions within their ranks over how to proceed.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday he wanted to delay votes on a measure that would repeal the 2002 war authorization and narrow the mission in Iraq.

Senior Democrats who drafted the proposal, including Sens. Joseph Biden of Delaware and Carl Levin of Michigan, had sought swift action on it as early as this week, when the Senate takes up a measure to enact the recommendations of the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission.

And I am rather alarmed at what Harry Reid said...that Iraq will still be there when they get back to it. Would love to hear the full context.

Reid, who will huddle with Democrats Tuesday to discuss whether to postpone the Iraq debate, cited pressure from victims' families for quick action on the Sept. 11 bill as the reason for doing so.

"Iraq is going to be there - it's just a question of when we get back to it," Reid said, predicting it would be "days, not weeks" before the Senate returned to the issue. The war reauthorization legislation also appears to lack the 60 votes it would need to pass the Senate.

What is wrong with just keeping on pushing it, forcing the Republicans and Lieberman to fight...not just giving in.

2. In an office today...two people sounded off in anger.
They expect the Democrats to do something. One of them was just about crying. He is a guy who has been Republican, and is furious with them.

These two said they need to fight for our troops, not with themselves.

The anger is building while we practice bi-partisanship.

And as Conason said, Enough of the new Bipartisanship.

Try explaining to angry people about this issue.

4. Its not about "bipartisanship" its about arcane Senate rules.
Substantial legislation cannot be passed without 60 votes.

5. I know that, they don't.
Explaining was useless. It is clear cut to most who are not politically aware. They elected Democrats to fix stuff. The details unfortunately don't matter to them.

I tried.

6. Here's an example of the anger here....letter to the editor.
This area is not very understanding of the political process, and many others aren't. This is what we are dealing with. I understand the process, and I feel great anger that they are not speaking out.

"As a coach, one of the things I tell my players is to "put up or shut up," meaning that they can talk all they want about how good they are, but until they perform then it's all just words.

I feel the same way for the Democratic leadership in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. How long have we heard them make the cry "Bush lied, people died" or "This war is about oil"?

Well Mrs. Pelosi and Mrs. Clinton, and your fellow congressmen and senators, it's now time to "put up or shut up." Enough of these nonbinding resolutions.

They made the claim that this past election was about Iraq. If they and all the others who voted yes on the nonbinding resolution are so against the war, then, by all means, they should cut the funding.

They and their fellow representatives control the purse strings, so what's stopping them? If you firmly believe what they say, then they should "man up," as my players say, and prove that they are not just talk."

11. I'm afraid their bipartisanship will cost us 08.
I am becoming more aware of the anger here. Of course they are upset because their precious GWB has failed so miserably, but they did vote them out....and they will yell louder than ever.

7. Sure would be nice if the Democrats would fight a war against the
Reoublicans. Loudly. As in "You're responsible for every death that occurs in Iraq as long as you don't vote for some control over this lunatic President of yours."

8. I think some Republicans would back down if we really stood up to them.
Many are in trouble at home, and a little pushing would help.

:hi:

10. America needs leaders in that body.
They are responsible for no justice or for continuation of war based on lies, especially if we are still in the same position in 08 as we are now debating the same things. It will be a very very chilly day in hell when I forgive them if that is the case.

12. So remind me why we should just keep blindly electing Dems if they won't fight?
Seriously. Harry Reid is a fucking joke.
