How can anyone possibly defend this guy?
1) Its illegal. According the smoking gun, this wasn't a one time deal, and Spitzer actually had a tab with this particular "firm". This wasn't a one time lack of judgement.

2) HE PUBLICLY BUSTED PROSTITUTION RINGS DURING HIS PREVIOUS JOB!! And then, he would go to the press and brag about it.

For those saying "its just sex, and a matter between him and his wife only." Fine. Then he shouldn't have been busting up prostitution rings when he was the AG. He put other people in jail for participating...why is he above it?

Look, he's human. He screwed up. Its not the end of the world. But there is no way he can remain effective after this type of behavior. It IS a big deal, its an abuse of power if he stays in office, and therefore he has to go.

3. it's a nice thought, but aren't the two situations completely independent of one another?
Besides, Spitzer publicly apologizes thereby admitting guilt. As opposed to the "we'll never admit to anything" tactic on the other side...

11. So did Vitter & Craig. Until they resign, why should Spitzer be the exception?

2. It's a little different to go after human trafficking rings
that were using unwilling women from southeast Asia as a commodity in the sex trade and patronizing an organization where one assumes all were willing participants.

I don't want to see him hung out to dry unless it's proven he used state funds to get his rocks off.

7. It's not different enough to exculpate him.
"In 2004, he was part of an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrests of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23561606/page/2/

5. The docs in smokinggun
are pretty bad for Spitzer. He can no longer be effective as governor.
Rachelle sure knows how to hustle the bucks though.

9. His credibility is gone.
He should resign for the good of the party, especially in an election year.

15. One Of The PERKS Of Office
Seems like for many of our "elected" officials, they have the right to get away with more stuff once they get into office.

But I think that's just the way life works. Get high enough on the ladder, and you get used to being able to knock everyone else down, while you climb higher and higher. Even if you have to bend the laws and ignore the rules for your own benefit along the way.

Only in Amerika, can you become CEO of a company like Countrywide....pay yourself $100+ Million in salary, even while your company is on the verge of bankruptcy, and has NO MONEY left to pay any bills. So long as you got yours, what's the problem?

17. Our culture has really sunk, hasn't it?
We really need an organized, focused effort geared toward these heartless, greedy CEOs....after all, they are the ones telling the politicians what to do.

I just turned on 'Democracy Now!' and Spitzer was supposed to give a big speech today about Choice...in fact, he is endorsing a law to strengthen the right to Choice in NY (just in case the SCOTUS overturns Roe). Odd that this story comes out today. The Catholic Church is REALLY PISSED at him about this proposed law. And they have lots of video propaganda going after it.

So this is just great....he goes to Prostitutes and endorses abortions. Someone needs to slap the hell out of him! I bet there are thousands of women in NY who want to.
