Condoleezza Rice certainly has her fans -- but I am not one of them.

This apparently offended some readers, who've weighed in since I wrote a column about three women on the national scene who make me proud.

The focus in that column was three women on the cutting edge of new leadership: Drew Gilpin Faust, the first woman to become president of Harvard University; Hillary Clinton, the first viable female candidate for president; and Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to serve as speaker of the House.


Why, some readers wondered, did I not include Secretary of State Rice?

Many suggested I excluded Rice because she is a Republican, which is not the case. I don't know Faust's party affiliation, and I don't care. My objection to Rice is not to her political party, but to her relentless support for the war in Iraq. On that, we could not disagree more, and gender has nothing to do with it.

White house spokesman and war hero rush limbaugh told his flag waving audience before the election that sherrod brown was black so there is that everpresent racial component.

So the sarcasm tag is necessary. (No matter how sarcastic or ludicrous you are, if it has anything to do with bush* it can be way over the top and still be true!)

limbaugh (and a whole bunch of chickenhawks) were right about Vietnam and wanted no part of that mess. That's why they chose to serve in America and share their patriotism and heroism from behind a microphone. Now that they are older and much wiser they see the benefit in our staying in Iraq for fuckingever while continuing to send our kids in harm's way. If you and I wait long enough we will awaken to their wisdom as well.
