What do they check for in a gun background check?
My cousin is a professional psychologist and legally blind. He had carry permit. His father died and he was going through a depression and his wife called 911 because she was afrid he sould hurt himself. The police came and confiscated his gun, but he is now accepted his fathers death and is normal. Can he ever get another gun for protection? FWIW he has been confronted by some young guys and because his service dog growled they asked if that dog bites. He said "If she is asked to." He defused the situation and all was fine. Because of the call to the polce his carry permit has been revoked. Can he ever get it back?

1. How did the case turn out (the one where the wife called 911)?
I think that's the big jumping off point here.

5. Nobody was charged with anything. The cops just kept his gun.
They've decided not to file to get the gun back.

6. Was the confiscation due to the 911 call
or because of him being legally blind?

Laws differ, and I'm not on the side of law enforcement, but one sounds like a Constitutional violation and one sounds like a safety call.

9. I don't know. His wife is really sorry that she called 911 , but she was
afraid at the time that he was so depressed about his fathers death . She said the gun in the house neve entered her mind, but when the police asked if there was any guns in the house she told the truth and said where it was. She's really upset about having caused him to lose his permit. I know this guy, and he would never harm anyone unless his life was in danger. People need to understand that legally bling doesn't meant that someone can't see, but that they can't see very well.

7. It's not on the concealed-carry application
I used to have one in South Dakota. I was asked name, former name(s), if any, address, height, weight, eye color, hair color, (but not skin color), social security number (I think), if I was a legal US resident, if I had ever been convicted of a felony, if I had ever been convicted of misdemeanor domestic abuse, if I had ever be judged mentally insane or involuntary confined to a mental-health facility, and if I abused drugs or alcohol.

Never asked me if I could see!

I think there are a few blind people in Minnesota that have them as well. The state, when they discovered that little factoid, tried to get the licenses pulled but the CCW holders fought back in court and won.

If he can answer no to 12 a - i, he should be ok. State laws may pertain.

8. I love question e....as though anyone
would answer that they are using drugs illegally.....duh?

And, I am more concerned that as a professional psychiatrist that he didn't recognize his own depression. I hope he is well now.

4. depends on the state
the laws vary from state to state.

but GENERALLY SPEAKING permit revocations are not irreversible. depends on the particulars, the jurisdiction, etc.
