Let's turn Social Security over to Bear Stearns!
This should be how we Dems frame the argument against privatizing Social Security.

Republicans want Bear Stearns managing your Social Security funds.

John McCain supports giving your Social Security to Bear Stearns.

If any silver lining can be found in this dark cloud, it's the illustration that tying social security to private investment firms is a really stupid idea.

1. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree
Retirement funds NEED to be there.

The idea is that, if our 401K's fail, if our savings in the stock market fail, EVEN IF OUR BANK ACCOUNTS FAIL, we will always have Social Security when we cannot work anymore.

5. That's assuming the the dollar has any value.
Your monthly social security check probably won't cover your rent.

You just had to know that baby boomers wouldn't be able to collect. For the past 25 years Congress has been pouring our Social Security into everything else. Now they've gone through our money and they are borrowing from the rest of the World.

We are so screwed!

14. Oh that's a funny coincidence!
I taunted my RW boss with that today... well, not those exact words (your's are better).

He got a blank look on his face, and then I could see the light go on..

He also said today that he "always thought he was a conservative, but..."

15. My 72-year-old mother and I were talking about this
very issue tonight over the phone. We chit-chatted about this, that, the other thing and then I brought up that I was totally pissed about the Fed bailout of Bear Stearns. She started ranting with me and pointed out that Smirk wanted everyone to have "personalized" SS accounts invested in the stock market so that (and this is my mother's exact phrase) his cronies could abscond with her old age security. Damn straight! Sing it, Mama!!

Fuck all of them and the horses they rode in on is all I have to say. From this moment forward, we should all be reminding everyone we talk with (and our local rag sheets) that wise Mr. Bush himself pushed this very line of so-called thinking. Had this hare-brained scheme become reality, the SS system would have been swirling on the bottom of the bowl. But not before the fat cats got even fatter. :grr:

16. Isn't that pretty much what Bush's SS "reform" plan was all about?
I agree that campaign theme would devastate McCain and the Repukes.
