will carry water for the bush mis-administration? I was listenignng to them this morning on my way to work, I heard the wonderful news that progress was being made in Iraq. Problem is, I had seen something that told the opposite story somewhere on the Internet. When I got home today, I checked to see if I was imagining things. Unfortunately I was not. Here are a couple of links that show how far they have fallen:

First, from NPR:

Iraqis Clear Way for Provincial Vote
from The Associated Press
BAGHDAD March 19, 2008, 04:59 pm ET • Under strong U.S. pressure, Iraq's presidential council signed off Wednesday on a measure paving the way for provincial elections by the fall, a major step toward easing sectarian rifts as the nation marks the fifth anniversary of the war.
The decision by the council, made up of the country's president and two vice presidents, lays the groundwork for voters to choose new leaders of Iraq's 18 provinces. The elections open the door to greater Sunni representation in regional administrations

Now, from the Washington Post:

Major Iraqi Blocs Boycott Reconciliation Gathering

By Joshua Partlow and Naseer Nouri
Washington Post Foreign Service
Wednesday, March 19, 2008; Page A11

BAGHDAD, March 18 -- A conference intended to bring together Iraq's rival sectarian groups foundered Tuesday when the leading Sunni political bloc boycotted the event and reiterated its demands for greater participation in the Shiite-led government. National reconciliation here has always been primarily about bringing Shiites and Sunnis into closer political partnership, a chief reason the Bush administration increased U.S. troop levels last year. But the boycott of the Baghdad conference by the Iraqi Accordance Front, a Sunni political bloc, illustrated how divided the two groups remain.
The walkout came a day after Vice President Cheney, on a visit to Baghdad, said the improvement in Iraq's security and political situation was "phenomenal" and "remarkable." But Sunni leaders warned Tuesday that reconciliation remained elusive.

Please share this with anyone who you know that still thinks NPR is "fair and balanced".

2. I gave up on NPR 8 years ago when Cokie Roberts was telling us all about Bush's "charm offensive"
And only this year, I listened the day after the Iowa primaries to see how NPR would report it and not one mention of John Edwards, the candidate who came in second! :grr:
