Since your "rebate" will be counted as taxable income for 2008, consider making a tax-deductable donation to a non-profit pro-peace organization like American Friends Service Committee:
http://www.afsc.org/ or United for Peace and Justice:
http://www.unitedforpeace.org/ (Please note: All UFPJ donations less than $100, as well as all online donations and credit card donations by phone are not tax-deductible.)
If you're not happy with the way your tax dollars are being spent, and your "rebate" is going to be taxed anyway, why not counter the mismanagement of US funds with a contribution that can do some good for the country?
I know it's not for everybody. If you aren't in a taxable income bracket or you have to live from paycheck to paycheck, you probably need that money just to tide you over. But rather than sticking a Band-Aid on the deep puncture wound that is our economy right now, by spending the "rebate", it'd be great to invest money into an effort that will really help our economy...getting the hell out of Iraq.
Just a thought... :hi:
