Marine, Iraq dog reunited in San Diego
1 hour, 1 minute ago

SAN DIEGO - A San Diego-based Marine major was reunited on Saturday with one of his closest war buddies — a 2-year-old dog named Nubs.

Nubs greeted Maj. Brian Dennis at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station when the fighter pilot returned from Iraq.

It was the first time the two were together since Dennis' family and close friends helped raise $3,500 to fly the dog to San Diego about a month ago. Nubs wasn't allowed to stay on base in Iraq.

Dennis, 36, of St. Pete Beach, Fla., had spotted the mongrel dog while on patrol in Anbar province and later nursed the animal back to health after finding him stabbed with a screwdriver.

3. Now that is the kind of dog story I want to hear...not like the one about
the dog who was starved and frozen to death like the one posted here earlier tonight. I wish I had never read it...it was so bothersome! Now I'm happier... thanks to this thread.

5. An Iraqi civilian reacts
I believe this is a reaction to a different, but basically identical story about the extreme lengths we went to to rescue an Iraqi dog:

a brief open letter to the washington post
as a response to this story about Making a Home for an Iraqi dog "Away From Baghdad's Slums":

one million Iraqis killed in the last 5 years, and you celebrate rescuing an iraqi dog.

what a bunch of racist assholes.

fuck you Karin Brulliard, and fuck the washington post.

ladies and gentlemen, please read the story and send a "fuck you" note as well. Or you can reach to Karin Brulliard's voicemail on this number 202 334 6000. I did, and I left her a "fuck you" note."

I am with Raed on this. To be clear, I am not objecting on principle to the rescue of a dog. I am objecting to the celebration of this as propaganda point in the media, without acknowledging that we are letting children starve as refugees, or sell themselves into prostitution.
