Bush will NOT be impeached Cheney will not be impeached McCain's "hero" status will not be challenged Ordinary home-buyers will NOT be helped We will NOT have single-payer/ socialized/universal/ national health care in MY lifetime Gasoline will never again be below $2 a gallon Food prices (overall) will never be lower than they are now
Why do I "know" these things?
I "know" them because I am old enough to know that costs & expenses always ratchet in one direction..UP.. There may be temporary periods of relief, but overall, they only increase, as the base rate keeps getting raised higher and higher..
Impeachment will not happen, because there is no stomach for it and legislators prefer to just run out the clock and "move-on".. If Gore were president, and everything else remained the same, he would have been run out of office within his third year.
Republicans, especially cornered/injured ones attack frontally and forcefully, like a wounded Tasmanian Devil.. They are the attack party, so anyone expecting democrats to impeach or impugn will be sorely disappointed. .
Big business/big banks/big ANYTHING, is always perceived to be more important than any individual. The ephemeral hope is that our government cares about us, and Will always be there to help us. Reality says otherwise.. New Orleans, ANY super-fund area, ANY "crunch", "meltdown", "bubble", "blip", "boo-boo".... these are always somehow morphed into the "personal responsibility" of the people on the ground.. the "little people"... This is the way it's done, because no matter which party is in DC and in charge, once the immediate election is over, our needs are the "past", and the "future" is always just the next election.
We will not have health care for all (equal health care) because as long as SOME people have primo coverage through their employers, and the poorest of the poor are somewhat "taken care of" though medicaid, and the military is "somewhat taken care of" through the VA, and the elderly are "somewhat taken care of" by Medicare, the part of the puzzle that is left, is not big enough or strong enough to be anything more than a talking point in a politician's speech.
Each one of the groups who are covered, have a special ID card that shows they are eligible to receive whatever care they are "entitled to", but the stumbling block to national universal coverage is this... BOTH sides of the problem are vehemently opposed to a national ID system that would be necessary to identify the people who would be eligible. ALL the other systems in effect now would have to be REMOVED/ELIMINATED for any singular system to work.. Until we are all truly "in the same" boat, some will still be IN the boat with a warm blanket & cocoa..others will be hanging on to the sides of the boat, trying to climb in, and others will be shark food.
McCain will skate, because no matter the party, people in our country have been raised to honor heroes..and overlook their flaws. The degree of heroism imparts special powers though. Kerry did not skate, because although he went to Viet Nam, he was not a hero...just a military man. To be a hero, you must be physically injured, or an acknowledged killer-of-many-enemy..
