Stars & Stripes letter: A nickel-and-dime ‘surge’
excerpted...

The president did not have a victory strategy for Iraq or an exit strategy for our troops. So we now have this nickel-and-dime “surge” plan. To sell this plan, the president offered personal incentives to some of our top leaders. Robert Gates helped the Iraqi Study Group come up with a completely different strategy for Iraq, then Gates was offered the secretary of defense job and now he’s all for the surge plan.

Casey wanted nothing to do with the surge, until Bush offered him the Army chief of staff gig.

Gen. David Petraeus received a fourth star for his support.

What did the troops in Iraq get for supporting this “surge”? Many received extensions and the feeling of being screwed!

2. There's been a "drip, drip, drip" of this sentiment for a few years now
with the latest revelation that generals would quit if we attack Iran.

Bush isn't paying attention, but what happened in Thailand could happen on his watch.
