I walked across the Edmund Pettus Bridge today

It is something I've been wanting to do for 40 years.

As I was walking in the footsteps of giants I thought about the chicken-littles on this site who are always whining about the police state in America.

Those people don't know shit about a police state.

I had the entire family in tow at the time and the kids were little back then. But that didn't stop the wife, mother in law and myself from remembering.

I guess we should just not make mention of the progression towards the police state, and should rather wait until it is actually upon us, before we complain.

And why exactly, do you feel we are so far removed from that possibility? All it takes is one incident, and suddenly the police are firing upon peaceful war protesters.

But I guess in your world, that's not even remotely possible in this great country of ours.

Your sense of proportion seems to be completely out of calibration.

Maybe it would serve you well to study the lives of the people who marched over that bridge.
