1. More like
Broken News. Yeah the abuse of "breaking news" is really getting pathetic, between speculation and news that is 48 hours old.

2. Well I theink the news is that people are speculating

3. "Could" and "Hoping to" rebound, reports the hairdo.
Later, she'll report either

"The market was expected to rebound" or

"Hopes were dashed after early hopes that the market would rebound."

No actual facts are necessary for reporters.

8. Well, Duh!
Unless there is a complete, global, economic collapse, the stock will ALWAYS rebound. Hoping for a rebound? Stupid.

5. people worship stocks as false gods

Does anyone think that ever increasing economic value can continue from explotation of energy sources, population growth and gains in efficiency ad infinitum?

The early 21st century Amerikan lifestyle, which among other measures can be gauged in dollars will not last long beyond mid-century and most certainly will be in decline by 2100 AD.

10. Legitimate "breaking news" if you are a corporate whore trying
to shore up the suckers, I mean investors.

11. What Those Headlines Often Indicate
is a reversal overnight in Asian markets and in futures on US markets. The reason for the word "expected" is that occasionally those movements don't follow through into the US market. So it sounds like hype, but it may be actually be based on real numbers.

On the other hand, like you I am appalled at the utter complacency in the news stories I've seen. Everything is designed to make investors keep their money in the market or even add more. There is no longer a wall of worry to climb.

Yesterday's action was very significant, and not only in the percentage drop. Breaking through resistance and long-term moving averages with heavy volume and breadth is a screaming technical indicator. Add to that the general overvaluation (a Dow PE of 22) and time of year, and all indicators point to the beginning of a downtrend.
