I missed celebrating the first of April and I regret it.....

...37 years ago on the first of April a taxi stopped in front of our house and dropped off my brother who returned from a year in combat with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. I was remiss and thank all the Gods for his safe return-I'll also phone him in the morning....
It strikes me that he is 58 years old now....much older than the WW2 vets that marched in the parades he and I watched together in the mid 60's.They seemed so old then and the war so far gone....
How nice it would be again to have a generation of school children for whom combat veterans and their wars seemed distant and historic.How seemingly fit to know a country of noble intent and aging heros,to look backwards on decades of peace...
And if we started tomorrow we might just get back to my starting point...A parade in the 60's remembering our long ago, last war.
