IF Rove were running campaign against McCain....
One of the first things he would have done is render McCain's bullshit "maverick" status into the fantasy that it really is.

He would successfully paint McCain as a terribly adept flip flopping panderer to the highest order. Mark my words - because the Dems fail to learn lessons from ANY learning opportunity that they have, through now until Nov, McCain's perceived attribute as a "maverick" will be seen as plus.

Just watch - during the Rethuglican convention they will make a corner piece of it that focuses on the "maverick" aspect.

Somehow the Dems need to morph "maverick" into "pandering suck ass." But I fear they will not.

1. He's already run a campaign against McCain
Rove started a rumor that McCain had an illegitimate black son
He then attacked his POW status, insinuating that it had made him kind of cuckoo

We can't do that in a general election. As Mark Penn has proven, you can't run the Rovian playbook on Democrats, especially the ones who've been studying the Rove playbook for 8 years.

2. ?
He was running a PRIMARY campaign against McCain; not a general election - and that junk was aimed mostly at one state or type of voter.

The best example of this is to examine John Kerry and one of the better successful tactics used against Kerry: make his thought of strength (combat/military experience) into one of the greater weaknesses.

From here on out (it is all ready happening) in almost every piece on McCain we hear that word "maverick" and in a good way. This guy is no fucking "maverick." He is a pandering, opportunistic flip flopper of the highest order. And if the Democratic party does not nip this "maverick" shit in the bud, look out.

3. You don't need the mind of Karl Rove to figure THAT out

I wrote this more than two years ago:
A McCain/Jeb ticket would be a dream come true

And best of all, we wouldn't have to do anything to McCain that Georgie didn't. What with the voting scandals, Terri Schiavo and the hurricane recovery, they can't deliver Florida without cheating this time, and if the Dems do well in 2006, something can actually be done about it. More important, with a Bush in his back pocket, McCain's "I'm a moderate independent" routine goes right down the drain.

All we'd have to do is present the threat of the country being run by ANOTHER unstable flip-flopper extraordinaire with Jeb filling Cheney's shoes in the role of "the REAL power behind the throne." Bring it on, guys, and make my day!

In a similar vein, check out this beatdown Rachel Maddow laid on Joe Scarborough the other day...

4. The ONLY good thing about GWB....
is he has probably inoculated us from another Bush presidency forever. If Bush 1 was a failure, Bush 2 a dismal failure, just imagine the damage another Bush would do to the US.....

If McCain dared to pick a Bush as a VP, oh my, the fun it would be. He really would be Bush 3, 4, 5 and possible 6.

5. One wonderful Dem (Rachel Maddow) did just that to Joe Scaryborough
She hit Morning Joe with lots of facts about McSame. Watch Joe's reaction. You can see the clip here.
