Saudi Woman Killed For Chatting On Facebook
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/31/wsaudi131.xml

A young Saudi Arabian woman was murdered by her father for chatting on the social network site Facebook, it has emerged.

The unnamed woman from Riyadh was beaten and shot after she was discovered in the middle of an online conversation with a man, the al-Arabiya website reported.

The case was reported on a Saudi Arabian news site as an example of the "strife" the social networking site is causing in the Islamic nation.

Saudi preacher Ali al-Maliki has emerged as the leading critic of Facebook, claiming the network is corrupting the youth of the nation.

2. I know this may sound off-tangent....
...but this article made me think about Gene Roddenberry. Because the more I read about the Saudis and these Wahhabi Islamicist in particular, the more I can appreciate the value of the Star Trek "Prime Directive" of not making contact with primitive peoples before they're ready.....

3. In one of the old Star Treks
the Enterprise was on a mission to screw up a primitive society that was living in a paradise controlled by their god "Vol". And when the Enterprise blasted Vol to Kingdom Come, Captain Kirk made a remark something akin to "Hey, just think-- now you'll be able to have babies and die!"

6. Yoy mean Star Trek TOS?
Art_from_Ark

I liked Enterprise, (just 4 season, but planned for 7) TNG, VOYAGER DS9 (and the movies) better than TOS. But it is fair enough, If you like 1960s movies I guess:hippie:

But many interesting parts when a more modern civilization are visiting more primitive civilization, and how to treat them then:think: I liked the series.. And I would be happy when the next Star Trek movie are coming ut, in the fall some times If I am not totally out in the blue

And for the record. I have a great appeal to the idea of humans travel in the deep stars also, even then it is a scary place to be.. How wonderfully it would be to travel from star system to star system. And discover so mutch.... Would be amazing.. But I guess it would never happened in my lifetime.

(Yes I am supporting the Manned space program by the way, and hopefully it would end in that humans have a permanent pretense both at the Moon and then Mars and beyond. But I guess it would mean that not just US or China or Russland have to work with that, but many other country to.. It might end in a more peacefully world to, when many country's have worked togheter on a great program like that?. If you know your "enemies" it is less possible that you wage war against them )

But as we all know, it is DAM HARD to live by the Prime Directive, in TOS as in the other series.. When you own morally standing are going hellware with what the Prime Directive are telling you to do.. Capt Picard in TNG was known to bend the rules every time he was finding the Prime Directive little to difficult to live by.. Even if it means that other was been known that it exist more advanced civilization out there...

Wikipedia have a little thing about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_Directive

By the way.. If it exist aliens out there, they may have a sort of Prime Directive of their own.. And that is maybe why we are not contacted.. We are not civilized enough, to come into the fold in the galactic sivilisation.. Not yet...

9. Agreed.
And in fact, rather than not contacting, we should be more worried about being blasted to smithereens!
:nuke:

- Because I know that if I were an alien, I wouldn't want Earthlings in my neighborhood. They keep up too much ruckus!!!

PS - The English was alright. ;)

5. And the US still has loving, hand-holding ties to this bullshit nation.
Oh yeah, that's right, because whenever they're backs and Poppy's needs itchin' . . . . well, you know the rest.
