He's like the crotchety grandfather, once lucid, now sliding into senile paranoia on some topics. I had such a grandfather, loved him dearly, but there were times you couldn't take him out in public. He'd had a hard life, survived the Bolsheviks, the Army, the Great Depression, ulcers and all kinds of loss and hardship and family tragedy.

I can appreciate it when Buchanan says something insightful, and forgive him when he goes off the rails and rants out of prejudice. He doesn't really move anybody's opinion that much, and he can be entertaining, more than modern Los Angeles culture, for sure.
