2. hell yeah we should legalize it. at least you can add them to the tax base.
and at least you could then control it & make them get clean health checkups, etc. why the hell not?

It is not a yes or no thing.

11. OK
How do you ever answer the question then? A lot of questions are complicated. But you still need to arrive at an answer.

5. Beyond theft, murder and physical harm, you shouldn't legislate morality.
Did I leave any exceptions out?

My opinion: drugs, prostitution, gambling: nobody's goddam business as long as you're not hurting anyone.

7. I agree on drugs and gambling
I am just not as sure that prostitution does not hurt anyone. I am not saying for sure it does, but I can not say for sure it doesn't.

8. if it does, then it's bad of course. but how do we generalize on something like that?
you can find examples of anything or any activity that can cause harm, but we don't always legislate against all instances of that activity.

I hear you, though.

13. Many many exceptions
Let's take an absurd one. Let's assume a restaurant owner doesn't want to serve african americans. Would you be in favor of legislating morality there? Of course. So yes, the government does get involved in legislating morality, even if there is no murder, theft, or physical harm.

14. But that's not a "victimless" crime (using crime loosely here), is it?
Assuming you believe people should be able to do what they want with their bodies (consume drugs, take their own lives, sleep with another consenting adult, possibly for money), etc.

16. well sorta, but
isn't that more like legislating equality? I dunno, the point's getting diluted. Maybe actually this is making my point, which is to say that we can't paint the stuff with a broad brush. Right?

I guess I'll just re-state my position that prostitution should be legal, but there should be regulation that protects the sex workers. And the customers as well. Let's face it: prostitution ain't goin' away. Maybe adopt the reproductive rights mantra: keep it safe, legal and rare.

17. I agree
Prostitution should be legal. Drugs should be legal too.

Tapping the phones of American citizens should be legal. Ooops, maybe I went too far. LOL

18. Morality shouldn't be legislated at all - rights should be protected.
Laws against theft, murder, etc aren't - to my thinking - about morality but about ensuring rights.

15. Prostitution is legal in most counties of NV.
NV has yet to implode. Crime in Vegas is no worse than some places, better than in others - oh, but prostitution is not legal in Clark County; Vegas is located in Clark County.

Here's some fun stuff from Wiki on Prostitution in NV

Legal prostitution is a complex issue; are the women exploited or aren't they. Do they choose prostitution or don't they?

I can tell you this; legalized prostitution can be an entirely different set of issues than prostitutions "in the streets".
