Bush's Dangerous Game
Submitted by pmcarpenter on Fri, 04/11/2008 - 5:52am. P.M. Carpenter
THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

President Bush is playing a very dangerous game.

.....................

The red lights are flashing, the Joint Chiefs are frantic (which, admittedly, they always are) and national security experts -- both inside and out of the administration -- are on the edge of a tormented breakdown because "more broadly," as the press coverage continued, "the U.S. military's ability to confront unanticipated threats" is pretty much, in a word, kaput.

This week -- once again -- a top Pentagon official (on his way out of office, of course) has told Congress "that the Army is 'out of balance' and that the current demand for forces in Iraq and Afghanistan 'exceeds the sustainable supply.' He added that 'soldiers, families, support systems and equipment are stretched and stressed."

In short, Bush has dumped all our might into one geopolitical basket, leaving the United States wholly exposed and virtually defenseless everywhere else.

Again, if a Democratic president had done what Bush has done, Republicans would dare call it treason. In fact, they once did.

13. You ever get hit by one of those steel monstrosities?
I'll tell you one thing, the armor on a Abrams M1A1 got nothin' on a 50's era piece of Detroit iron.

As an aside, when the time comes, those driveable antiques down in Cuba will be worth a small fortune after the trade embargo becomes history.

4. Where else do we need defense? Guam? Why...
is there always this panic that someone at the edge of the empire might start some shit that endangers us?

And, ummm, hasn't the recent mess pretty well proven that while we are pretty good at dropping bombs and invading small counties, we have no ability to slug it out with a determined enemy for the long haul?

5. I call it treason now
Bush is working for the Saudis and for the Mexican government, not for the people of the United States.

His actions make sense ONLY in the context of understanding who his masters are.

Send the US military to Iraq to protect Saudi oil fields, leave a wide open border for Mexico to pursue their dreams of re-conquering the American southwest.

Destroy our freedom, destroy our economy, and leave us unable to reverse the damage.

The latest is that he's now DOUBLING the amount of student visas for Saudis. How anyone can believe, in the context of his actions, that he's fighting a "war on terror", is beyond me.

6. Gee, this scenario sounds familiar ...
Oh that's right!! This is how the USSR went down, and some say as a direct result from the trouble in Afghanistan in the 80's.
Actually, it was probably a combination of the US upiing the military spending ante.

So what does Bush and Co. do? Wage a half hearted war in Afghanistan, and the move on to Iraq, and God only knows how far we are committed to this Iran thing. At this point, the US could probably be taken over by one or a small group of third world countries.

Sidenote Rant -
As it is, if China calls in our debts, or if Big Biz really wanted to do so war wouldn't even be necessary for a take over of the US - friendly or otherwise. As a matter of fact, considering the job (or lack thereof) the US media does, we may already be taken over, and they won't tell us until it is impossible to reverse.

7. Would it not fair to say Democrats who dare not call it treason are spineless cowards lacking the
moral courage required of citizenship and for those in the Congress to be lacking the moral courage necessary to execute the basic requirements of their oaths of office, to wit: is Madame Pelosi public enemy number one for having taken impeachment off the table? Just wondering.

10. Yes, it would be extremely fair and reasonable. Because those who DON'T try to stop
evil, and deliberately close their eyes and ears and mouths - are COLLABORATORS and ENABLERS, and every bit as guilty as the perpetrators they're supposed to be putting out of business, or at least severely hobbling. If they refuse to do something about it, then the fault is every bit as much theirs. In fact, in some respects, their crime is WORSE. It's on THEIR consciences, too. Absolutely.

Point extremely well-taken, indepat.

9. When did a Democratic President EVER do what Bush* has done?
I know Republicans accused Clinton of Treason and many many other things but did Clinton EVER misuse America Military in any way what so ever? How many American military died while on combat missions that Clinton began? I know that seventeen dies in Somalia which was began by Bush and within weeks after those deaths Troop withdrawal began. I don't believe a singe GI lost their life during the Kosova fighting nor did any die during the Haiti conflict. Once the mission was accomplished troops were brought home. Can anyone tell us how in any way what Clinton did is similar to Bush*?

Like all the other departments that are starving for funds and whose functions are being "privatized".
