I'm sorry, I was still dozing a bit. I googled news just now and didn't get anything except this http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat?bid=1&pid=310436

How do I find out if the Vatican has sent out a press release saying something to the effect that "You broke it, so now you've got to stay."

Do you think this will cause a several million Catholics to vote against our candidate?

1. According to the article...
The opposite is true. (Even if it was true, most Catholics I know don't pay much attention to the pope.)

4. I know what the article says. I was trying to reconcile it with what I just heard on NPR.
IMO, the Catholic Church had some to do with putting this jerk in charge of this country, so maybe the Pople is trying to save face with American Catholics.

2. I also heard NPR report this morning
that Bush and The Pope had "formed a bond."

6. not in regards to Iraq...not happening....He will be anything but tactful in his
remarks regarding this war...TOO many people are watching and his "respect" as leader of many...is tenuous.

3. You're not going to find a Papal document saying that. You might find one saying
the occupying forces aren't doing enough to protect religious minorities. Benedict has been on record since before the war saying the action did not meet the requirements for a just and moral war.

7. I sure as HELL hope he wouldn't fuck around with our electoral politics AGAIN.
I'm sorry, these are old issues for me. :grr:

No matter the consequences, America MUST be Free to decide for itself what is right and wrong. It's this slavish dependence upon obsolete "authorities" that got us into this HELL in the first place, but you can darn well bet yourself if the pople says don't leave, there're a bunch of Catholics who WILL vote against our candidate. :grr: :grr: :grr:

8. That's pretty ridiculous. I guess you'd have to define a "bunch."
Nothing the Pope or my bishop says is going to influence who I'm going to vote for. I don't think either left and right leaning Catholics are going to be swayed to voting for or against someone because of something said by the Pope. The Catholic voters issue guides read the same every election: "GOP candidates right on life issues, Democratic candidates right on social issues," last few years the GOP has lost some ground on the life issues as supporting unjust war is a negative in the life issues column.

A nice example I've always loved to see is these two old guys at the church I attend when I am in Louisiana, both drive old pick up trucks and park beside each other. One has a bumper sticker that says "You can't be Catholic and a Democrat," the other "You can't be Catholic and a Republican." I've gone to have coffee with them after Mass, it's pretty good intelligent ongoing debate they have.

9. I didn't read past the word "ridiculous". If you expect someone to listen to you, you need to learn
what simple ordinary respect is.

13. That's what I thought. The feeling's mutual. I'm not one of your sheeple, but watch out,
someday the sheep are going to look up.

5. True on both counts...I can't believe the Pope ...who has been against
this imperialistic war would ever condone staying the course..However, he may hold B and Co. responsible for some of the human cost and need for reparation...as well he should.

10. Pope John Paul II condemned the war; not this guy.
He has stated that our role in Iraq is not one of invaders at this point, but of rebuilders, so it's cool for us to stay there now to help the Iraqis. :eyes:

11. That's correct. It was JPII who said this is an Un-just War.
What do you think all of these catholic blog-tenders are about?

15. Sign of the times I guess.
The Catholic church is in serious need of positive PR; it's numbers are declining in this country at least.
