Dead Cat At Jail May Have Been Tasered

SANTA ANA (AP) ― The scandal-plagued Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating whether jail staff tasered a cat that was found dead on facility grounds.

The investigation comes after a scathing criminal grand jury report last week that found deputies at Theo Lacy Jail sent personal text messages and watched TV while inmates beat a fellow inmate to death.

Sheriff's spokesman John McDonald says a tipster told the department Monday that jail personnel had tasered the cat. The animal was later found dead on the jail grounds, between two fences.

2. Okay, I am officially pissed off now
Every day, it seems that I find something in the news to piss me off, whether it's the body of a young bride found in a mass grave in Iraq or the revelation that we've been using the strappado as a torture technique in Abu Ghraib or the news that al-Sadr kept a ceasefire with US troops only as long as Herr Decider and CENTCOM bribed him to do so.

That poor cat. Yes, I am pissed.

in related news,

i found a very small kitten outside of my house laying on the road with a bloody nose.

if i ever find the son of a bitch who could throw a kitten out of their care, im going to beat the living hell out of them. it takes alot to get me violent, but you dont mess with defenseless animals.

edit: im taking care of the kitty btw, i hope she(i think) is going to be okay.

4. It's a whole new type of "dark ages" we live in, folks. What once was, IS again.
But rest assured, this age is DARK, no matter what the TV tells you.

Torture is no secret, "warrants" are a thing of the past, the
ranks of our nation's "Uniformed & Badge-carrying" regiments are being
packed with order-following THUGS who kill small animals for fun...

We are in the midst of some serious SHIT that slips under our radar,
yet would be instantly recognizable to any illiterate Medieval SERF.

That whole "USA" thing? It's OVER.

Has been for some time.

11. There is a culture of impunity in many prisons. The belief is nobody cares what happens inside b/c..
they are all criminals and that they deserve what they get in the form of torture and other abuses by prison guard staff. Is it any wonder why many prisoners come out even worse than they went in?

15. Mickle strange, indeed
I'm upset about both incidents, but to think of the guards sitting around watching TV while they knew one of the inmate goons was beating a man to death says something special about lost humanity. Did they just turn up the sound? Were they watching "Cops" or "Reno 911"? Can you imagine being the wife of one of these guys, dreading the call that they've been killed in the line of duty, and dreading even more the sound of their car pulling into the driveway?

23. Imagine what they'd do to you, these fine guardians of the law.
'The real power, the power we have to fight for night and day, is not power over things, but over men.' He paused, and for a moment assumed again his air of a schoolmaster questioning a promising pupil: 'How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?'

Winston thought. 'By making him suffer,' he said.

'Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing. Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery is torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress towards more pain. The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice. Ours is founded upon hatred. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement. Everything else we shall destroy everything. Already we are breaking down the habits of thought which have survived from before the Revolution. We have cut the links between child and parent, and between man and man, and between man and woman. No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend any longer. But in the future there will be no wives and no friends. Children will be taken from their mothers at birth, as one takes eggs from a hen. The sex instinct will be eradicated. Procreation will be an annual formality like the renewal of a ration card. We shall abolish the orgasm. Our neurologists are at work upon it now. There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party. There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother. There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy. There will be no art, no literature, no science. When we are omnipotent we shall have no more need of science. There will be no distinction between beauty and ugliness. There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always -- do not forget this, Winston -- always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face -- for ever.'
