Torturers in the White House: Why Is This Story Being Ignored?

We now have confirmation that the President of the United States gave the OK to torture. Where is the media? Where are the Democrats?

The biggest news of the last week went virtually uncovered by the mainstream, print media. ABC News first reported last Wednesday that top Bush Administration officials, including Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, John Ashcroft, and George Tenet, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld met to discuss which particular torture techniques should be used against Al Qaeda suspects in U.S. custody.

The group signed off on specific techniques, including sleep deprivation, slapping, pushing, and waterboarding, and gave instruction "so detailed … some of the interrogation sessions were almost choreographed, down to the number of times CIA agents could use a specific tactic."

If John McCain is seriously considering Condoleezza Rice as a running mate, the former POW should keep in mind that Rice not only condoned torture, but chaired the National Security Council's "Principals Committee" meetings to plan the details of torture of prisoners in U.S. custody.

Then-Attorney General John Ashcroft was so troubled by the meetings, he was moved to object: "Why are we discussing this in the White House?" he asked, according to ABC. "History will not judge this kindly."

On Friday, ABC added this blockbuster: Bush himself was aware of the meetings. Unlike Ashcroft, he had no compunctions. There was nothing "startling" about the revelations that his top advisers were directing the waterboarding of individual prisoners, Bush told ABC's Martha Raddatz. "And yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue and I approved," Bush said.

Why is this not bigger news?

Remember when the nation was brought to a virtual standstill over Bill Clinton's affair with a White House intern?

When a Democrat is President, the media will suddenly become VERY INTERESTED in even the slightest rumor of Presidential malfeasance.

Look what they did to Bill Clinton and what they're doing to Obama and Senator Clinton. They pick them apart over little things, all the while ignoring the some of the most horrible crimes imaginable from the current squatter in the White House. Oh, and kissing McCain's ass because they're apparently hoping for more of the same. It makes me so angry!

same team overall. The media and the career politicians do what they can to keep Americans occupied and pissed about some side show while they rape us and our country for their benefit. Clinton cheating on his wife and family and getting his dick sucked was all just a sideshow to keep us sheeple busy, now they use more American idol and such to do the same thing...that just tells you we are getting dumber and easier to get over on as time goes by. Hopefully Americans have finally had enough by now and are going to make change this election cycle and continue to be involved instead of getting lazy and going back to sleep.



I wouldn't go buying into the whole republicans are evil and democrats are saints bullshit if I were you, go by all of their actions and it will show that we have very few representing we the people and way too many representing the elite and the money.

thus, journalism is ignoring real news as well -- at the behest of marketeers and advertisers -- that's my theory

Rice lied to Congress and if they wanted to, they could have her arrested. Why isn't there a warrant out for her arrest by our Democratically led Congress?

this story is going nowhere and i really can't understand why. this is absolutely criminal and against everything i thought my country stood for, yet nothing. nothing.

Whatever it takes to protect America is alright with the majority of Americans.
They just don't want to hear or read about it.

American citizens certainly do not approve torture, the loss of civil rights, war as foreign policy, domestic psychological operations, war crimes, or any of the other fascist crap this criminal administration has done.
