Local Business Offering Incentive on Refund (sic) Checks

http://www.kjrh.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=dd7d11cc-717a-4f8b-b4b0-a72f55e617c0

As part of the Economic Stimulus plan people will start getting rebate checks in the mail. Reasor's is offering an incentive if you spend at least $300 of your check at their store. For every $300 of your check you put on a gift card, you'll get $25 in free groceries, not to exceed $100.

"We did it because we feel like we sell something everybody needs and everybody uses, food, so we could do something to help them stretch the value of those rebate checks, so we thought this would help do that," said Kirk Doyle with Reasor's.

Plus, Doyle says the cost of groceries is expected to go up.
"Our suppliers are telling us for 2008 that groceries are going to go up 7%, so it affects everybody that eats," he said. With the increase in grocery costs, some shoppers are considering taking advantage of the offer.

"Probably use it to pay off some of our bills, but if we could use it on groceries we'd certainly use it on that too," said shopper Chris Marple.

Others like Reasor's idea, but are using their checks to pay for other expense, "With this check right now, i'm thinking of clearing my credit (debt)," said Rosemary Kungu.
The program runs between May 1st through the end of July.

2. Eating is a choice?
"Our suppliers are telling us for 2008 that groceries are going to go up 7%, so it affects everybody that eats."

Being a person who doesn't eat and therefore is not affected by the price rise, I'm spending my dubya' dollars on some Komsumer eleKtroniKs.

3. A $600 check
in 2008 should just about cover the additional expense of inflating bread, milk, home heating and gasoline prices for the average American.

Congratulations, America: we're right back where we started!
