Court broadens police power in searches
The Supreme Court affirmed yesterday that police have the power to conduct searches and seize evidence, even when done during an arrest that turns out to have violated state law.

The unanimous decision comes in a case from Portsmouth, Va., where city detectives seized crack cocaine from a motorist after arresting him on a traffic-ticket offense.

David Lee Moore was pulled over for driving on a suspended license. The violation is a minor crime in Virginia and calls for police to issue a court summons and let the driver go.

Instead, city detectives arrested Moore and prosecutors said drugs taken from him in a subsequent search can be used against him as evidence.

6. Thats right
I remember seeing a story about someone who was pulled over and had a shitload of cash on them from a few tears back, it turned out that the guy was a collector and was on the way to buy something but the fucking cops called it drug money and confiscated it.

2. Well the fight against evil must be waged
Who understands what all of these old timey principles about liberty were about anyways. All I want is to be able to watch my TV and eat my cheeseburgers. :eyes:

Enjoy your internets while you can. Pretty soon they'll be able to search your house because you posted a controversial thought.

5. There are NO LIBERALS on the supreme court - only fascists and center-right conservatives.
And the cons still aren't satisfied? I just hope I live long enough to see them becomes the victims of the bad policies and laws they have enabled.

7. Yes - That was what got my attention
under the court's current makeup this type is not all that surprising.

But a 9-0 call, that is.

Would have liked to have been a fly in the room when that was being decided, might have been quite interesting.
