Attn Jimmy Carter Fans:
This is a link to our local CBS affiliate in Raleigh. Jimmy Carter is in town on a book signing tour. I just watched the interview with him as had a smile on my face the entire time. I wasn't watching the clock, but I'm estimating it ran about 20-30 minutes or so (I was sorry to see it end).

He recounts interesting stories of his life, his work, the presidency, the current campaign, Jeremiah Wright, booze in the White House, and of course, his Mama.

I highly recommend giving this a viewing to help put things into perspective, and to be inspired by this man who has devoted his life to peace, and continues to do so.

There's also an article highlighting some of the Q&A's.

2. He accomplished nothing because he has no power.
It violated the Logan Act. Is this just another ploy to allow out of power politicans to meet with foreign governments in our name in the future?

I'm not sure he was "allowed" to go -- was he? Did he ask for the WH's approval?

7. Actually, much was accomplished that didn't make the news. Does that surprise you?
I will touch on one thing because I worked last night and am very sleepy. I have a copy of an 8-page report on what Carter did in the Middeast. When I have time, I will release more of it here.
I do not have a link, only a typed memo that was written by Carter himself.

>>>snip
We proposed a rapid exchange of prisoners, involving the early transfer of Corporal Schalit to Egypt in exchange for a group of prisoners not guilty of serious crimes, including ALL of the women and children. Hamas considered their negotiations through Egypt to be well advanced and including prisoners whose families had been promised a high priority on their list to be swapped.
Mr. Mashaal assured us that Schalit is well and promised us a new letter from him to his parents, to be delivered through the Carter Center. Also, Schalit will be transferred to Egypt as an intermediate step in the exchange. (Schalit has been a prisoner for two years and was thought to be dead--Hamas has shown proof he is not).

9. When you finish with the hand typed memo/8 page report
be sure to get it to the news media so they can do their report.

I would hate to be blaming the M$M for not doing their job when the whole time you have the memo they need.

seem to have a strong agenda, I for one would love to see the 8 pg memo!

I'm looking at him as a man who has good intentions and is doing what he believes in his heart is right.

How did this get off on a debate on Carter's visit to the ME?

This isn't even GD-P - I just posted a lovely interview with a person whom I admire greatly, and wanted it available for others who might enjoy it, too.

31. More...
"In 1972, he aspired to the presidency. As the unknown Southerner, he fought hard. To compensate for his inexperience, he took on as Vice President Walter Mondale, a seasoned and devoted liberal. He attracted votes from liberal and moderates in the Democratic Primary. During the debates Jimmy Carter looked as presidential as President Ford. Ford had taken the fall for the Nixon economy, and the voters did not forget his pardon of President Nixon. Although Carter lost the popular vote, he won the electoral vote 297 to 240."

http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/History/presidents/Presidents_39_Carter.htm

Carter lost the popular vote. He won the primary against Mondale a real liberal.

Carter de-regulated the oil industry. That's when the oil crisis occurred. You could only get 5 gallons of gas at a time. There were huge lines.

Mondale would have been a better President.

18. I actually have two memos
The one I transcribed from is the 8-page talking about his trip to the Middeast and what was accomplished. Across the front page it says "For Distribution".
The second memo is two pages and about the elections in Nepal. It does NOT say "For Distribution"...so obviously I would have to clarify before releasing anything from that.
IF you want...you can PM me your address and I can snail mail these to you.

But you're my number one ignore candidate.

I posted a video which has NOTHING to do with the ME/Israel, for people, like me, who hold Jimmy Carter in high regard. I don't understand what it is you hope to accomplish by barging in and telling me/us what a loser he is. How do you benefit from that?

Thank you for taking a gesture that was intended to just be a pleasant diversion for some people, and making it into a field for your agenda --

It pains me to do this to a fellow Mac user, but see ya. :hi:

32. I am amazed
at the Carter hating on this thread. It's like LibaughLand.

I had dinner with Jimmy Carter and others when he was president. I lived in D.C. - He was a genuine person - Not really meant for the modern day slime machine. I worked in a special status sort of job that gave me access to some pretty interesting people and Carter was, by far, the most impressive.

I admire Jimmy Carter very much. He has no evil intent.

He does what he can with what he has rest of his life - he is quite old now - I think 84? Anyway I would never assume he is doing anything to further his own agenda... Unless you are aware that his agenda is to bring clean water and housing to the poor.

33. I lived thru the Carter years, too, & agreed with more decisions he made
while in office than any other president since before Nixon (I was too young to pay much attn before Nixon). Carter inherited a wrecked economy and other problems and was crucified in the media for trivia or things he had no power to change.

That was when I started to recognize that the "liberal media" was a myth.

Jimmy Carter was and still is a real american hero. I was there and saw that since he didn't play the game the machine did their best to destroy him.

But what did he do? In the private sector he kept doing what he believed in and as a result, is beloved
around the world. Oh, except for a bunch of ignorant americans.

35. Carter was a member of the Council on Foreign Relations
Edited on Fri May-02-08 02:06 PM by mac2
just like Obama now. Brezinski was Carter's man, and his cabinet picked by David Rockefeller.

We should demand our leaders not belong to those secret/behind closed door groups who manipulate our goals and policy behind closed doors. It violates the Logan Act.

The liberal media or any media did not talk about it in this country. Foreign ones have. Much of our media owners and journalists also belong to these groups. They go where the power is don't they? By allowing them power we make them strong. We have to demand that they leave or not belong or we will never be a democracy deciding our own fate. It will be constant war for profit by the few elite.
