I just told a firefighter off!
:P

He was shooting the shit in the packie with the clerk and he left his huge pickup truck running out front, (really loud too) and the three men were having a great conversation but I walked in and pointed my finger at him, in a menacing way, :P and said, "You're bad... you're really, really bad!!" And he said, "What did I do?! And I said; "You left you're truck running!" Then he said it costs more to turn it off and then to start it up, then it does to keep it running. I'm guessing it's a diesel engine and I don't know if it's his truck or a town fire dept. truck but it had a town fire dept. plate on the front. Mind you this was all in a joking way and he knew I had a twinkle in my eye and so did he but he did leave almost immediately and drive away! :P

3. I don't give a frig what type IC engine you've got
If you're sitting still for more than a minute, you're wasting more fuel than it would take to shut it off and restart. It might be that older vehicles without ECU's and injection might not gain anything in that short period of time, but I'm not willing to waste a resource that isn't doing anything productive.

My personal response is to remind this type of idiot that they're making someone else rich by being careless/thoughtless about how they use a limited and expensive resource. You just can't fix stupid but you might appeal to their greed to gt them to change.

and he's an older guy but I got my point across... without being an asshole. ;)
Not just the gas though... he said it was 'his' gas but I'm guessing it's the 'town's' gas.

BTW?

He wasn't a firefighter from my town. He's from the town over and they won the Firefighter's Muster,
3 times in the last few years, so I'm willing to cut him a little slack. ;) They're good! And a lot
of them are volunteers, on call.

5. I once saw a cop write a guy a ticket for doing exactly that.
Read him the riot act on stolen vehicles too. The cop told the guy. If someone gets in your car and drives away with it. Just like everyone else. You're gonna call us up and then bitch at us if we can't find your car and have it back in your driveway in 24 hours or less. You can't even be bothered with turning the engine off or taking the keys out of the car. The cop ripped him a new one right there in the middle of the convenience store.

6. I agree with that. I never leave my car running or
ever leave it unlocked when I'm not in it. But you have to imagine... this is a very small town
and he was right there, about ten feet from his truck. I think the last 'crime' here was maybe
kids riding skateboards in the grocery store parking lot or a DUI. Although last year we had a
kid missing and then a guy missing. Both were found. The worst that happens here is car accidents.
