Election 2008 Creating Record Number of Democrats

The ongoing race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination may be causing angst for party leaders, but the competition has been good for the Party label. In fact, the Democrats now have the largest partisan advantage over the Republicans since Rasmussen Reports began tracking this data on a monthly basis nearly six years ago.

During the month of April, 41.4% of Americans considered themselves to be Democrats. Just 31.4% said they were Republicans and 27.2% were not affiliated with either major party.

<snip>

The partisan gap now shows the Democrats with a 10.0 percentage point advantage over the Republicans. That’s the largest advantage ever recorded by either party. In fact, before these past three months, the previous high was a 6.9 point percentage point edge for the Democrats in December 2006.

The 10.0 percentage point advantage for Democrats is up from a 2.1 point advantage in December.

2. But wait, there's more.
Junior's approval rating just sunk to yet another new low. This one's Rasmussen's monthly average.

Not good news for John McSame.

Record 2.2 million ballots going to Oregon voters.

Over the years, Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury has appeared at more than 100 high schools to drive home the message that young people should register and vote.

It hasn't taken much coaxing to get more young people registered for the May primary.

Oregon's mail-in primary is one of the last in the nation — votes are counted May 20. Most political insiders had assumed the fight between Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama would be decided long before now.

That hasn't been the case, of course, and now Oregon finds itself at center stage. With all the interest the presidential race has generated, state elections officials last week reported that there have been 62,673 new, first-time voter registrations since Jan. 1. More than 36,000 of those are in the youngest group, ages 18-30.

4. Nothing like a little Republican rule to send America spinning to the left.

7. Maybe people are finally realizing what you get when you "elect" Republicans.
You get war, war, and more war. You get tax breaks for the rich and the corporations, leading to spiraling debt. You get lies, lies, and more lies. You get Alberto Gonzales. You get crimes, crimes, and more crimes, many involving sexual perversion and immorality, at the highest level. You get Dick cheney.

It's time for America to recognize that terrible, failed conservative policies are causing America's current steep decline. (How many say we're on the wrong track?) The public agrees with the Dems by large majorities in every policy area. The Republican presidential candidate is an aging, desperate doofus who can't see what's right in front of him.

Surely we can win this time, even with the inevitable Republican cheating. Can't we?

8. 77% Believe the Nation is Heading Down Wrong Track
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/mood_of_america/right_direction_wrong_track/right_direction_or_wrong_track

48% of the nation’s adults are inclined to vote for a Democratic Presidential candidate while 34% prefer a Republican. Given the fundamentals of a troubled economy and an unpopular war, these results are not surprising. What is surprising is how competitive John McCain is when matched against either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

Even with this advantage we can lose the presidential race. McCain is polling surprisingly well against both Hillary and Obama. But once we have picked our nominee he won't get so much of a free ride. However, you might recall that the corporate media gave Junior a pass in 2000 while attacking Gore. Well most of us registered voters still get most of our 'news' from the same cast of characters.

But yes, we can win this time, even with the inevitable Republican cheating.

And don't forget those important Congressional races. It is my fond hope that we will pick up 5 Senate seats this year, maybe more.

5. The battle between Clinton and Obama has been very good for the Dems.
That is why I don't understand people who are objecting to letting this thing play out. Add this fact to the displeasure with the Republican Party thanks to Bush, and we are growing by leaps and bounds. It is a wonderful thing.
