McCain walks as if he were in a hopsital
I don't mean this to make fun of him at all, but when he minces around in front of his audience trying to be "folksy" and approachable, he shuffles around as though he is just out of traction. All that is missing is the hospital johnny and a portable IV trolley for him to hold onto.

I truly believe that the numbers he is getting, and they are not great to begin with, are because of his valorious POW experience. When the nation sees him debating Obama or Clinton, the man is going to appear far less than robust.

1. The man's mind is less than robust
All the time he back tracks, contradicts himself...he can't articulate his position on different subjects that should be on the tip of his tongue....like birth control, Abortion and sex education. If I was a repug I'd be embarrassed. His strange walk and posture appears to be his broken arms which don't move well and he seems to shrug his shoulders because of it.
If I have to hear "my friends" every third word for 4 years...I'll leave.

Or don't you think so?

13. Editor in Chief of Psychology Today - The Brain, aging and the Candidates
The Age Factor
What Learning Research Tells Us About Candidates

By ROBERT EPSTEIN
May 4, 2008

Here's a simple exercise I've conducted with thousands of people over the years — students, business executives and even some politicians:

I give you 20 alphabet blocks and ask you to spell some simple words: BOX, RUN, DOG and LIP. You quickly find the letters printed on the blocks and spell each word, one after another, moving faster and more efficiently with each word.

The next word is CAT. You quickly find the C, and then the A, but you can't immediately find the T — because, in fact, I've removed the blocks that have a T printed on them. You look again through all the blocks, but still no T. You start to feel frustrated, and now, with painful precision, you pick up and inspect each block very carefully, making sure you don't miss that T.

Some people in this situation get so frustrated that they give up.

Now I bring people into the room who are unfamiliar with the exercise. I give them the blocks and say, "Please spell the word CAT with these blocks."

They quickly find the C and then the A. Then they search for the T for a minute or two, mumble something about it not being on the blocks — and then quickly use five or six blocks to assemble a T.

The first group of people had more experience than the second group, but their experience — and, in particular, their previous successes — interfered with their ability to spell the word CAT when the circumstances changed slightly. Those with very little experience could approach the same problem with greater flexibility.

>>>>>>snip

And then there's the elephant in the room, one that's so big and so scary that I hesitate to point it out. Although, as I've said, research reveals both advantages and disadvantages to experience, it's far from forgiving about age, especially when people are as old as John McCain. A recent brain scanning study, for example, shows that brain size peaks at age 14 and that by the time we're 70, our brain has shrunk to the size it was when we were 3.

And lest you think that we cram increasing brain power into that constantly shrinking brain, consider: Raw scores on intelligence tests peak between ages 13 and 15, and most kinds of memory also function best during our teens. The bottom line is that as we age, it gets increasingly harder for us to learn and master new material, which is why so many baby boomers spend so much time kicking their computers.

When you factor disease into the picture, things look even worse. By age 85, nearly half of Americans have Alzheimer's, a devastating destroyer of cognitive abilities that can creep up gradually over a period of many years. A president in his 70s, Ronald Reagan was suffering from signs of the disease during his second term, and his memory problems were severe within three years of the time he left.

So just how experienced — and how old — do you want your president to be?

2. Agreed ...AND
I have posted a few threads wherein I state that I believe that his speech pattern has changed markedly in the last few weeks. I heard him on NPR one morning and his voice was unrecognizable. It's either surgical changes, new dentistry, or another central problem. Also, he's showing many new nevi or moles on his face, IMO.

Has that happened yet? Wasn't there was supposed to be a brief viewing of thousands of pages of his medical records by hand-picked journalists, with pre-selected questions being answered by doctors?

31. If you have people on ignore
you don't need to announce it to taunt the person in each thread where you see "ignored." And wondering what they are saying kind of goes beyond the point of having them on ignore in the first place.

28. As usual, appearances are deceiving...
...don't let his lull you into a false sense of this guy. I respect him and his service and sacrifice. I think his party alignment and his policies (as well as those of almost all of his party kindred) suck.

How he shuffles or skulks because his calcified injuries limit his range of motion matters very little to me. The fact that people who only vote according to the letter after his name (whether it benefits them or not) concerns me very much.

I'm chosing to focus on what matters.

Just sayin' .

30. 'I respect him and his service and sacrifice.' - Yes, we know.
Why does every negative post on the man have to infer that somebody doesn't respect his sacrifice? A hell of a lot of people sacrificed for their country, doesn't make them President material.

33. Because the infirmaties you pointed out...
Edited on Mon May-05-08 10:04 AM by Duke Newcombe
...weren't acquired through McCain's poor lifestyle choices--they were inflicted as a direct result of his service. I further point out there there are hundreds of legitimate reasons to dislike him-support of B**h's policies, the "conversion" to a conservative (aka, sellout) for this election cycle, etc.

Furthermore, unless you've got a guilty conscience about this, I don't believe that I ever said you didn't respect his sacrifice--I only said that I did. Care to expand on this?

You don't like the man, and anything you can use to give voice to that displeasure is fair game--we get it. I choose not to conflate my disgust for his (and most other Republican) policies and beliefs with his worth as a person.

You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine--and there it ends.

I don't want or need to make this into a "defend McCain" thread-we have more important things to discuss, with such a short time until November.

Duke

32. His shuffle
doesn't bother me so much. Just his political stances and the abject evil he represents.

But, I know that a lot will be made of his health and age during the actual election. (When Obama or Hillary finally get into the fray with him!) I don't have a problem with that, as it's an actual concern. But, it's the least of the reasons why I wouldn't vote for him.
