My new favorite leading economic indicator.
Edited on Sun May-04-08 06:17 PM by Skidmore
Toilet paper.

I bought a 24 pack of the toilet paper we get. Not that feels-like-cotton stuff you can make a tee-shirt out of. We buy basic stuff made to break down quickly so it doesn't muck up the drain or the local lagoon. Anyway, I bulk buy, meaning that I get toilet paper about every two months. Well, I was putting the new purchase in the cabinet and pulled out the last roll of the old stuff. A roll of my new purchase was a full half-inch narrower than the old and three-fourths the girth of it.

I guess the economy is in the proverbial sh*tter.

1. Smaller in the height of the roll and the diameter?
I'll bet the price was the only thing that grew.

2. had a similar thing with cereal box size recently
I glanced at my receipt to check the price on something and noticed two lines for the store's brand of shredded wheat, using different abbreviations. Other things I bought more than one were clustered (2 X or 2 @...) I thought, that's odd, maybe they have different UPCs for some reason. They did - and the newer one was 16 ounces instead of 17. No price change on the tag, but a 6% increase in fact.

I would have gone back to the store to protest but with the cost of gas I don't make trips to that particular store very often.

4. Happens to a lot of stuff
Price increase by stealth. Here in Oz, standard loaves of bread went from around 1kg to 800 grams - same price. They must think we don't notice.

8. Bread slices are thinner too.
I bought some lunch meat last week and the slices were so thin you could see through them.

9. I've been trying out these two brands

This one I use with Trolls

This one has a long shelf life and is reusable

Actually I noticed the price went up
since I buy a mega box of TP about once every 3 months.
