Ryan Seacrest May Be Replacing Larry King
By Courtney Hazlett

<SNIP>Ryan Seacrest might be adding hosting duties of another kind to his schedule in 2009. A source from within CNN says that Seacrest, who has filled in for his friend Larry King in the past, is involved in "serious negotiations" to take over “Larry King Live” around year’s end. King told The New York Times in April 2007 that Seacrest would be his first choice to take over the show when the time came.

“He’s the classic generalist,” King told the Times. “The only thing I don’t know, and I’ve gotten to know him pretty well, is how versed he is in politics, world affairs. Does he read the paper? Is he interested in Iraq? Because if he is, he’s going to be very good.”

Another source familiar with Seacrest and his involvement on “American Idol” said that a drastic course change might be just what Seacrest needs. “He's so serious about his career, but like anyone, he wants it to evolve. Hosting ‘Larry King’ would be perfect for him."

A rep for Seacrest said that “Larry and Ryan are close and Ryan does fill in as a guest host from time to time, but we have no comment on this story.” Another source close to CNN, on the other hand, said “there is no truth to this story.”

----------------

Another journalistic high for CNN.

13. Larry King has been TOO ugly to be seen on TV for several years, now!
Ryan Secrest would just be a fluffer to any celebrity with a book to sell or a movie coming out or......oh....wait......That's all Larry King does now anyway!

2. Actually I look at it as something of a wash
Not that Seacrest is worth anything as a host but could anybody be worse then Larry King?

4. I like Seacrest a lot, but I can't see him hosting a political show.
Edited on Wed May-07-08 11:59 AM by BattyDem
LKL is also a current events show, so I guess they could tone down the political stuff. Then again, maybe Ryan's a closet political junkie ... who knows?

One question I have to ask ... WHEN DOES SEACREST SLEEP?!?

6. I was gonna say
Larry is hardly an astute political observer, maybe a notch above Oprah.

9. LOL!
I don't think he's THAT bad. He's definitely passed his prime, but at least he knows what's going on. The worst thing about him is that he CONSTANTLY interrupts his guests. They'll be trying to make a point and he's on to the next question - or he'll follow up with a tabloid-type question, which kills the impact of a serious answer by a guest.

Hmmm ... the more I think about it, you may be right about him being a notch above Oprah, LOL!

5. Rick Dees learned the hard way
that radio/announcer skills don't necessarily translate to talk format.

That said, Seacrest is very good at what he does, and desiccated old Larry should be enjoying a retirement in Coral Gables.

10. it makes no sense to say Seacrest takes over King's show
it would be King's show ending and Seacrest getting a show. It would be a different show, maybe with the same channel, time slot and format.

11. You think that's bad, I read that as King replacing Seacrest
and assumed they meant American Crapdoll.

Then I figured that it's his level of talent anyway

19. This gave me a needed laugh!
Do these cable news networks realize how out of touch they are? People who want real news get it online. So why not Ryan Seacrest? It's not like Larry King does serious journalism, anyway.
