CNN "Religious right leaning toward Democrats?"
I have been noticing a change in the way my conservative Christian friends are approaching this presidential race. They are sick of Bush, scared about the plethora of looming crisis we are facing, and finally noticing they have been manipulated... well at least some of them are. Call me crazy, but I think Obama could have a real shot at gaining a huge majority of these people's votes.

<snip>
For decades, evangelicals have been seen as solid supporters of the Republican Party. That could be changing.

The religious right, a cornerstone of the so-called Reagan revolution -- the battle over abortion law, and gay marriage -- wants a change.

At least some evangelicals do.

A group of influential Christian leaders are declaring they are tired of divisive politics, tired of watching fights over some issues trump all the good they could be doing.

"Our proposal in manifesto is to join forces with all those who support a civil public square. ... a vision of public life in which people of all faiths -- which, of course, means no faith -- are free to enter and engage public life on the basis of their faith," said evangelical leader Os Guinness.

For Democrats, the timing is good. The party has been pushing to overcome the "faith gap," that many feel has hurt them with church-going voters.

1. In the New Testament is the tale of Jesus defending the woman taken in
adultery from the vengeful villagers who hold stones in their hands.

I wonder what percentage of fundamentalist Christians who purport to BE Christian defended Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky matter.

I bet not many.

I'm for Obama in this now-2-person nomination race, but will still defend Bill Clinton against the ravening jerks of the Far fundamentalist Right who tried to drive him from office consequent to his fibs about infidelity.

On a contextual note, where is the New Testament tale of the man stoned for adultery in this case? I'm presuming that the woman could not have committed the act alone.

3. Well, I don't really see what your post has to do with the article...
I get that you have some issues with fundamentalist Christians... and even though I am a Christian myself I can see your point somewhat. Still, do we all have to agree on everything to get behind the same candidate? That's one of the things I like so much about Obama... he understands that we are all different and doesn't demand a homogenized voting block.

Getting to know each other... working together and really getting to know each other is the best way to get rid of some of these ignorancies and fears that divide us. Let's welcome whoever wants to come on board, and hey, let's do it with a smile:)

2. I think that writer is reaching.
The "leader" he quotes is a Brit, Os Guinness, whose associates are "eggheads." I'm not sure that one can extrapolate his experiences to Republicans generally.

4. You know what...
I am in close contact with a lot of these people every day, and I can tell you, there is a new mood out there. They are sick of the way things are, they are scared of all of the looming crisis, and they are finally recognizing that they have been manipulated. Someone like Obama, with his integrity, intelligence and sheer winsomeness could really get their votes. Every day, I hear people criticize McCain and then say something like... "Hey, you know this Obama guy doesn't look too bad..."

I don't think most political "insiders" have a clue about how monumental this shift could be. I've been talking about it for a couple of months now, and I am really excited at the possibilities.

6. The RWing Fundies know that McLame is only pandering to
them for their votes. They know that he would ignore them if he became Pres.

8. mmhmmm....
And you what really damages his credibility with them? The way that he has treated his wife. The fact that he never came to her defense when Bushco smeared her in '04 doesn't sit well with them. If they knew about the c**t comment, I can't imagine the reaction.

May sound trivial, but I think it really shows a character flaw that would be meaningful to them...

I'm one of "they" and I'm not so bad. Really I'm not:)

12. I read an article in the NY Times magazine that said the same thing, the evangelicals have shifted
their focus from abortion and same-sex marriage to world hunger, AIDS and global warming. (that's what the article said) That's one of the reasons the Democrats are appealing to them more and more.
