Look out Momma!!! 401 years ago today

1607 An English colony was settled at Jamestown in present-day Virginia.

I read in the local paper's "this day in history" that on May 13 the ships stopped off shore and on May 14th they came ashore for the first time.

:shrug:

and it should be noted that this was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Roanoke Colony was the first ENGLISH settlement and the Spanish were well established here having ventured as far north and inland as the Tennesse Valley by 1607. In fact at the link below you can see that the Spanish were lobbied for access and protection.
