Senate votes 97-1 to stop filling reserves with oil
I just saw where the senate voted to make Bush stop filling the national reserves with oil. No link yet.

1. Aren't the reserves 98% full already?
If so, what's so important about topping off the last little bit?

3. Good question
Bush has been filling them since he took office. I think you are right about them being almost full, so I don't know why Bush has refused to stop pumping more into them. I also heard that Bush wanted to "expand" the capacity of the reserves.

Many think he is planning an attack on Iran and wants the reserves full because they know the flow of oil will drop if they do. Who knows what goes on in the minds of Bush and Cheney! :eyes:

19. He wants them full while he is in office.
Probably true about the Iran business. Military strike against Iran and the price goes further up.

6. Booooshie Wants To Add More To The Reserve
Byron Dorgan was on Washington Journal today saying that this regime wanted not only to keep buying but buy more...putting it underground. All his assholiness has to do is executive order more reserve space.

Now I'll bet the asshat vetoes the bill...his oil buddies are making too much on the speculation and price run-ups and we know whose interests are served first and always.

14. I am sure he will Veto it
But I heard congress has enough votes to stop that veto.

26. Never Trust A Crooked Boner...Err Boehner...
Here's a goon who had his caucus vote against Mother's Day and Child healthcare. If this regime cracks the whip, the GOOPers in the House will still try to outleap one another.

Then...there's the obstructionist Senate...

7. It was a way to help keep the prices going up
and the GOP hedge fund buddies in fat city. Face it, this gang in power are not our friends. They are doing everything in their power to strip mine the last bit of wealth away from the people who work to create it.

This is their end game.

30. Adding 70,000 barrels a day hardly keeps the prices going up
The US burns over 21 MILLION barrels of oil a day, and the world uses 80+ million barrels a day.

This move will make no difference as far as oil prices are concerned. They will continue their inevitable climb.

31. It's a psychological thing that tells them they've got nothing to fear
because this country will do NOTHING to drop speculator prices.

9. Reserves
that is one of the main reasons oil prices are so high, there is almost a total of 790 million barrels in the reserves, that is a lot of oil
and if he was still buying , he was taking that off the market

:grr: :grr:
:hi:

12. Yet all the oil in the reserve would only supply the US with 85 days of gasoline at current
consumption (388,600,000 gallons a day).

15. Hate to say it, but Bush may be right on this. 70,000 barrels* 42 gallons per barrel = 2,940,000
gallons of gas. We use 388,600,000 gallons a day. That's only saving .07% of what we consume.

16. 70,000 barrels a day
Times 120, got up to 126 today so far, and you come up with $8,400,000 taxpayer dollars going into the ground each day!

Edit: try this link, the old one didn't work for me when I went back to it:
Sorry, that isnt' working either:
It takes them quite some time to officially record the votes. Once they do, the info will be available on Thomas.

Edit 2: Sorry, can't seem to link right to the bill; go to Thomas home page and type it in (S2284). Thomas home page here:

with.

The only "nay" was Allard from Colorado.

Why am I not shocked?

Thank you for the link, btw.

18. This is why conservation will not work
People need the energy. People need it as cheap as it can possibly be.

21. Our whole economy is based on cheap energy.
We either have to find a different source of cheap, plentiful energy, or make a radical adjustment in how this country functions.

25. I agree.
But until we get rid of Bush and company, that will never happen. All that money going into subsidies for the oil companies could have been used to develop other sources of energy instead of helping out a business that has made record profits every year since Bush took office!
