ACLU Obtains More Documents: Torture By Bushco - "widespread and systemic"
ACLU Obtains More Documents Evidencing Torture
By Jeralyn, Section Terror Detainees
Posted on Wed May 14, 2008 at 10:28:32 AM EST

President Bush says the U.S. does not engage in torture. The ACLU has new evidence from documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act that it does.

These documents provide further evidence that the torture of prisoners in U.S. custody abroad was not aberrational, but was widespread and systemic," said Amrit Singh, a staff attorney with the ACLU. "They only underscore the need for an independent investigation into high-level responsibility for prisoner abuse."

The newly obtained documents are available here.

1. K&R
I've always felt that if they're admitting to waterboarding, they're doing more than just that.

2. Thinking seriously about a big donation
I'm thinking seriously about splitting my rebate check between the ACLU and Amnesty International.

7. The US does NOT torture!
"Q Is there going to be investigating the allegations that there are U.S.-run terrorist detention centers abroad? Don't the American people deserve an accounting of why these places exist and what's being done there?

THE PRESIDENT: The United States of America does not torture. And that's important for people around the world to understand."

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, well, what he ought to be saying is, is that America doesn't torture. If the implication there is that we do now, then he's wrong. And you bet we're going to protect ourselves by the use of military force. What he really is implying is -- or some imply -- you can be popular; if you want to be popular in the Middle East just go blame Israel for every problem. That will make you popular. Or if you want to be popular in Europe, say you're going to join the International Criminal Court.

I wonder where georgie heard such big words? Check my sigline

12. But they only "waterboarded" 3 terrorists.
That we know of. We have no idea how many died while being tortured. Doesn't it make you proud to be an American??

13. This crap sends a shiver down my spine
Bush has turned our non-partisan agencies into Republican Evil Empire Soldiers. This episode has had to have tainted CIA values and behavior to the core. The next President might have to purge the whole government right down to the Secret Service to get rid of the Bush Loyalists. Then the bastards can all go join Blackwater, where they belong. And that whole strange shit scares me, too.

14. You're kidding, right?
The CIA has done all of this with full gov't support for over 50 years now. "Bipartisan" support.

If you want it to change, you're going to have to do more than purge the gov't- you're going to have to rebuild its priorities.
