Are your chickens plotting the next 9/11?
Have a farm? Or a few chickens or goats running around the homestead? Well, beware. The Department of Homeland Security is determined to keep you safe from your menagerie. Seems your chickens are plotting to kill Americans on a grand scale. Oy.

http://www.alternet.org/rights/62858/">U.S. Government's Plan to Protect You From Terrorist Livestock

-snip-

It would be one thing if this were meant for the massive factory farms run by agribusiness conglomerates, which account for the vast number of disease outbreaks. After all, they have corporate staffs, computer networks, and existing systems of inventory tracking. But no -- rather than focus on the big boys that cause the big harm, NAIS targets hundreds of thousands of small farms, homesteaders, organic producers, hobbyists ... and maybe even you.

Me, you shriek?! Yes. If you keep a pony for your kids or board a couple of riding horses, if you've got a few chickens in your backyard, if you've got a potbellied pig or a pet goose, if your youngsters are raising a half-dozen ducks as part of a 4-H club project, if you maintain a buffalo or a goat just for the fun of it -- indeed, if you have any farm animals, NAIS wants you in its computerized grasp.

Every farm, home, horse stable, or other domicile of these animals would have to have its address and precise GPS coordinates filed into the system's central computer, along with the name, phone number, and other personal data of the owner/ renter of the premises. Owners of the animals would have to tag every one of them (luckily, fish ponds are not included!) with an approved tracking mechanism -- most likely by implanting radio-frequency ID chips into them.

Then comes the burden of logging and reporting the "events" in each animal's life. These not only include sales and deaths, but also any movement of the animals off the registered premises, including taking them to a vet, going to a horse show, presenting them for judging at the county fair, trucking them to another farm and participating in a roundup or sporting event.

-snip-

Believe you me, I'll be keeping a suspicious eye on my chihuahua from now on.

and keep us from producing our own food. It's all about fear. Follow the money...and power.

I planted my victory garden on the little plot they call the patio at our apartment...the very next week, the breadwinner got outsourced, no thanks to the Fed's big bailout, and we'll be moving out...probably in with our daughter since I surely won't be signing a new lease which is up before the harvest...

Guess those terrorist zuchinis, tomatos, and peppers will be terrorizing others...

Who has my terrorist unlicensed kittie been "chattering" with? Cause my dog's a "legal beagle."

11. Perhaps...
after marshal law takes a good hold, there will be a need for a viable place to house and feed the marshals....and taking over places and homes where a level of self sufficiency has been established would be most desirable. Might be better to hide your chickens and goats and keep them out of the system before that happens.

13. I think they're afraid of a popular revolt if they overreach, and they know
that guerillas can keep going for years if the local populace feeds and shelters them. Even the Baltic States, annexed by the Soviet Union during Stalin's era, had resistance fighters living in the countryside into the 1950s, or 5-6 years after the invasion.

Hence the desire to track every bit of potential food that is outside the control of agribusiness.

16. that's certainly a part of it.
it's just another move to create the Panopticon, by storing as many bots of information there are in existence about people and utilizing sophisticated software to answer just about logistical question the government might want to ask about you: where you are, where you have been, what you eat, how you spend your time, who you spend it with. Anyone with access to information like that needs only a creative mind and an agenda to take control.

20. This isn't about homeland security or such,
It is about driving the few remaining family and small farms out of business. There has been a resurgence in small family and organic farms in the past ten years, and God forbid the factory farmers actually have to compete, thus they lobbied Capital Hill and got this abomination introduced. This is supposedly under the rubric of national security and for health concerns, but really this extra monetary burden is designed to run small farmers out of business.

22. the so-called "war on terror" has become a catch-all phrase to justify . . .
any and all intrusions into the lives of average Americans . . . the ultimate goal is to have every citizen implanted with an RFID tag that will enable the government to monitor everything we do, everywhere we go, what we purchase or rent, and everything else about us . . . total control of the population is the goal of what some call the New World Order . . .

and since there can never be an end to the possibility of terrorism, the war on terror is now a permanent part of our existence . . . and it will continue to be used to violate the Constitution, our civil rights and liberties, U.S. and international law, and every other organizing framework of our society . . . it's a control device that those in power can and do use against the rest of us, and they're not about to give it up . . .

the USDA needs serious reevaluation and revisioning; any organization willing to write off CAFOs as healthy practice needs to be stripped of power.

looks like the program has been launched but as voluntary- for now.
