John Edwards Meets Second Life 'Feces Spewing Obscenity'

As an adult heterosexual who has no interest in making love to an anthropomorphical fox typing "YIFF! YIFF!" into the chat window in capital letter synchronicity with every virtual thrust, I don't play Second Life. Yet maybe I should start, if this post from John Edwards' Blog is anything to go by...

Shortly before midnight (CST) on Monday, February 26, a group of republican Second Life users, some sporting "Bush '08" tags, vandalized the John Edwards Second Life HQ. They plastered the area with Marxist/Lenninist posters and slogans, a feces spewing obscenity, and a photoshopped picture of John in blackface, all the while harassing visitors with right-wing nonsense and obscenity-laden abuse of Democrats in general and John in particular.

Read those words aloud, slowly, letting each one run sensuously over the papillae of your tongue. There is no way to get to 'feces spewing obscenity' without having what can only be described as a verbo-gastronomic orgasm.

I love the shrill, hysteria-laced tone of the post. It continues:

I witnessed this event, taking names and photos, including the owners of the pictures. I also kept and saved a copy of the chat log. I have filed an abuse report with Linden Labs, and am awaiting their investigation.

This is the modern-day equivalent of hippies freaking out the squares. You see countless news stories about this, over and over again: the gray humorless drones of political parties or corporations rushing to establish a presence in Second Life because it's the thing to do, only to find themselves staring directly into the collective Goatse.cx of the Internet's soul.

2. I'm sorry, but I'm having a real hard time comprehending this.
Here's what I think I understand: there's an online game/chatroom/alternate reality in which John Edwards has a campaign headquarters. And someone or some people drew pictures on the picture of the headquarters. And then somebody got pissed off... and then the OP drifts off into Incomprehensible Land.

Let me toss this into the pot: I am virtually outraged.

4. That's close.
Second Life is an on-line virtual world in which you create a persona (not necessarily anything like your real-life person) and interact with others.

People buy real-estate, work, build, etc., etc., on-line. You can even buy designer clothes, advertise, and do business there if you want to. (And when I say 'buy', I mean spend dollars for virtual real-estate, virtual goods, etc.)

IIRC, some people actually make their living off of their Second Life activities. Or maybe it was just additional income.

3. Second Life is a joke... I can't believe politicians have been duped into using it.
