BUSH'S KNESSET REMARKS AN APPALLING DISPLAY OF HYPOCRISY AND IGNORANCE

By Bill Gallagher
DETROIT -- President George W. Bush's deceit has no limits. His attack on Sen. Barack Obama, suggesting the Democratic presidential candidate wants to "appease" terrorists, reaches a new low, and we should brace for more as the Busheviks desperately and ruthlessly try to cling to the White House.

In identifying his candidacy with Bush's slurs, Sen. John McCain is showing his vile style and the direction the Republicans will take throughout the campaign -- anyone who does not agree with us is unpatriotic, a coddler of terrorists hellbent on destroying the nation. McCain has descended into becoming Bush's poodle, a loyal lap dog.

Bush peddled his assault on Obama in a speech before Israel's Knesset. Never before in our history has a president used an appearance before a foreign legislature to so brazenly attack a political opponent at home.

Bush wallowed in the most putrid muck ever, coating himself with everlasting stench and forever staining the Republican Party. His soul is as hollow as his imagination. He has no dignity. He has no conscience.

Speaking on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Israel, Bush unleashed his partisan smear and cheap-shot attack, invoking the Nazi Wehrmacht storming into Poland and the start of World War II.

Playing to his Jewish audience, many with family members killed in the Holocaust, Bush used emotionally charged imagery and historically false parallels in a vile and shameless attempt to score political points in Israel and the United States.

2. Here is a quote from Frank Rich's Sunday column in the NYT:

i]The president implied that Mr. Obama would have enabled the Nazis even more foolishly than his own grandfather, Prescott Bush, did in the 1930s when he maintained “investment relationships with Hitler’s Germany,” as Kevin Phillips delicately describes it in “American Dynasty.”

Now, if only someone could dig deeper into Prescott's deceit and treachery in the Plot To Overthrow FDR.

7. Oh, I know about it all, but no one in the media has ever
talked about it. A friend of mine in his sixties whois very well read and is a hard-core yellow dog Dem didn't know about it. It is hard to find stuff like this documented in history books or elsewhere.

8. That was a great column
I particularly loved this part:

The Democrats can only hope that Mr. Rove will be a color commentator, so to speak, at the conventions. The parties’ weeklong infomercials are shaping up as quite a study in contrasts. For all the fears of a Democratic civil war, the planets may be aligning for a truce, and possibly a celebration. As fate has it, the nominee’s acceptance speech is scheduled for the night of Aug. 28, exactly 45 years after the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. electrified the nation with “I Have a Dream.”

The next day brings another anniversary: Mr. McCain turns 72. And then, on Sept. 1, comes the virtually all-white G.O.P. vaudeville in Minneapolis-St. Paul. You’ll be pleased to know the show will go on despite the fact that the convention manager, chosen by the McCain campaign, had to resign last weekend after being exposed as the chief executive of a lobbying and consulting firm hired by the military junta in Myanmar.

The conventioneers will arrive via the airport whose men’s room was immortalized by a Republican senator still serving the good people of Idaho. This will be a most picturesque backdrop to the party’s eternal platform battles over family values, from same-sex marriage to abortion.

4. I would bet that very few, if any, Israelis were fooled by that nincompoop's speech.
Yossi Beilin, an Israeli lawmaker and key architect of the Oslo peace accords, summed up Bush's remarks for Canada's CTV: "It was an embarrassing speech, a collection of slogans that someone wrote for him in order to be nice to Israel, or what he thinks is Israel, and to steer clear of anything concrete. It's a shame and a scandal, in my opinion."

17. Pretty much sums up his "eloquence"
It was an embarrassing speech, a collection of slogans that someone wrote for him in order to be nice to Israel, or what he thinks is Israel, and to steer clear of anything concrete.

All his speeches sound like this--a collection of slogans put together by some hack who thinks he's a genius at figuring out what the rubes want to hear.

Each one ripples and reaches more people. In another several weeks it will become common (unacknowledged) wisdom.. Then a couple months later there will be asides in corpomedia that hint that "people know this, it's old news". .

average Jew in Israel? I have voiced this before, but I do not think average Jews, know about this anywhere. It is ugly, far worse than anything else. Prescott Bush, his son, rich cause of Nazi investments. Not confiscated, but returned. What can one say?

How Bush's grandfather helped Hitler's rise to power

Rumours of a link between the US first family and the Nazi war machine have circulated for decades. Now the Guardian can reveal how repercussions of events that culminated in action under the Trading with the Enemy Act are still being felt by today's president

Ben Aris in Berlin and Duncan Campbell in Washington
The Guardian, Saturday September 25 2004

George Bush's grandfather, the late US senator Prescott Bush, was a director and shareholder of companies that profited from their involvement with the financial backers of Nazi Germany.
The Guardian has obtained confirmation from newly discovered files in the US National Archives that a firm of which Prescott Bush was a director was involved with the financial architects of Nazism.

His business dealings, which continued until his company's assets were seized in 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act, has led more than 60 years later to a civil action for damages being brought in Germany against the Bush family by two former slave labourers at Auschwitz and to a hum of pre-election controversy.

The evidence has also prompted one former US Nazi war crimes prosecutor to argue that the late senator's action should have been grounds for prosecution for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

The debate over Prescott Bush's behaviour has been bubbling under the surface for some time. There has been a steady internet chatter about the "Bush/Nazi" connection, much of it inaccurate and unfair. But the new documents, many of which were only declassified last year, show that even after America had entered the war and when there was already significant information about the Nazis' plans and policies, he worked for and profited from companies closely involved with the very German businesses that financed Hitler's rise to power. It has also been suggested that the money he made from these dealings helped to establish the Bush family fortune and set up its political dynasty.

Remarkably, little of Bush's dealings with Germany has received public scrutiny, partly because of the secret status of the documentation involving him. But now the multibillion dollar legal action for damages by two Holocaust survivors against the Bush family, and the imminent publication of three books on the subject are threatening to make Prescott Bush's business history an uncomfortable issue for his grandson, George W, as he seeks re-election.
