Questions About PhotoBucket
well, i FINALLY figured out how to upload pictures from the web onto photobucket.

i have one of their free accounts.

i have uploaded several pictures. if the site i get them from goes down does that mean i will lose the picture?

also--in the settings section what is
Edit Application Permissions? there is the name fotoflexerimageeditor or something and a link where i can "revoke permission" ... what does all that mean?

and -- i don't really understand KB AND GB. is GB a lot of pictures? or should i be careful about how many i add and put on du?

thanks in advance.

1. I have no idea what any of those things mean

and I've had photobucket for the last several years. I usually only find out about particular features when I actually need them, and whatever those things are, I must not need them. :)

You definitely will NOT lose the picture if the original site goes down. KB and GB I guess would be kilobytes and gigabytes? I think the limit is pretty high, even for free accounts.

Enjoy.

2. you download them on to your computer---yes, and then on to photobucket--yes?
if yes to both then no you won't lose the pictures unless our hard drive dies and you didn't back it up.

3. what if i don't download it onto my own computer first?
what if i just get the ___ (whatever it's called--the properties) from the website and put that on photobucket?

if i do that am i still using someone's bandwidth?

and if yes, then how do i copy a picture and download it to my computer? and then from my computer to photobucket?

(sorry for all the questions.)
(thanks in advance. again.)

4. then as far as i know if you direct link from a website to pb and then that website
decides to zap a pic then it will disappear off your pb. the ony way you can keep it is by downloading on to your computer and then uploading it to pb.

8. well, let me clarify a bit...
my daughter is the one with the digital camera.

she takes a lot of pictures of her friends (and herself w/friends)

she knows how to put those pictures on the computer

(and then she'll put them on facebook)

i have no clue about that

the only pictures i've ever put up were pictures that were on google images where i would just copy the properties and glue up here.

as for photos? personal photos? i have no damn clue about those.

on the bright side--maybe in another four years or so i'll get the hang of it.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

9. Maybe you'd enjoy having your own digital camera...
They come with the software (on a disk) that you upload into your computer, and then THAT tells you how to transfer pics from the camera to the computer...

Psstt...it's easy!

Once you plug your camera into the computer, the pics upload automatically!

The new camera comes with a little cable that plugs into your computer, and there you are!

Honest, it won't take you four years...

12. Not true. If you upload from a web url, photobucket keeps a permanent copy...
Saves clutter on your own computer and having to do double steps.

7. Just to add, I'm sure that photobucket keeps backups of the servers
GB=Gigabytes. KB-Kilobytes. A GB is 1 million KB.

You give permission to share your photos and your site. That will allow other people to see the pics on your site. Hope this helps.

11. OK, a couple quick answers:
Once you've uploaded something to PhotoBucket, an actual copy
exists on their server, no matter what happens to the website you found it on.

KB & GB: Those are units of measurement; terms used to describe
the size of computer files.

"KB" is short for Kilobyte; that's not much data. My avatar
at the top of this post is close to 3 Kilobytes worth of data.
"GB" is short for Gigabyte. It's easiest to just think of it as a BILLION Kilobytes,
and that's an ASSLOAD of data.

For example, this particular pic:

It's about 119 'KB' in size; it would take a little more than
9 thousand copies of it to add up to a 'GB' of data.

The "Edit Application Permissions", I'm afraid I have no idea what that's about.
I don't do much with my PhotoBucket account beyond loading pics and linking
to them; I've never really gotten into the "advanced features" they have
in some of those control panels.
