SAVAGE: I’m asking you, would a sane nation permit a senile senator to hold his seat? You gently send in orderlies in white coats, and they gently remove the old man, and they put him in a chair — strap him in — in the Senate retirement home, and wheel him over next to a curtain facing a nice outdoor window, and three times a day they feed it.

2. I could have sworn he was talking about McCain.
I mean, Byrd doesn't make an absolute ass of himself every time he speaks like McCain does.

7. People of West Virginia elected him, just as the people of South Carolina elected
Strom Thurmand, both were the choice of the voters.

25. Which, in the case of WV
is largely because our progressive community has not yet learned how to field its own candidates. But we're working on it! The Mountaintop Removal opposition movement is slowly teaching this state that the destruction and devastation will continue until we get the old coal whores out of office.

Byrd's emotionalism was, IMHO, genuine. The Senate is something approaching a sacrament to him. Its members are like unto holy men.

11. I wondered when Michael Weiner would speak up
I expected it to be a comment about George Takai's upcoming wedding.

Still, Mr. Weiner is simply speaking for all the republican asses both in and outside of Congress. They probably cheered behind closed doors yesterday.

This was when the nation discovered that the button that launches our nuclear missles wasn't actually a button. The whole country was living in fear of Reagan accidently pushing it.
