John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God's behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a "hunter," sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God's will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel.

Going in and out of biblical verse, Hagee preached: "'And they the hunters should hunt...

1. I bet he's one of those Christians who support Israel
because he thinks it is hastening the Second Coming, when all Jews who don't covert will be condemned to hell, right?

3. Ding Ding! Spot on correct. Hagee only loves Israel for the part it will play in the rapture....
a part in a play the Jews want nothing to do with.

Hagee is convinced Jesus is on his way soon and just can't wait for Armageddon.

But make sure you buy his books first.

and it really pisses me off when they donate money to fund people to move to israel. I wish the Israelis would tell the radical christian clerics to go fuck themselves.

2. Mr. Hagee needs to visit Dachau and Aushwitz... I just came back from
Germany and visited Dachau while there. It was gut wrenching... you could just feel the evil...not only see it.

How despicable! Do you think you will hear about this on the MSM? NOPE!!!

20. Hagee would consider such a visit a happy reflection on God's grand design
And I agree with you, any coverage of this in the MSM, if there is any, will be approximately .0000000000000001% of the time spent on Wright.

10. Hagee is the gift that keeps on giving
AND YET...I have an evangelical / fundie friend who has taken Hagee completely off his radar. He KNOWS the score...he just feels that having Hillary or Obama for president is something that cannot happen. He doesn't like McCain, feels he's one of the weakest candidates in modern history, and still plans to vote for him.

14. Voters will get it or they won't...
...like I said, I have a friend who "gets" 100% of it and plans to vote for McCain anyway.

We went into the 2004 elections with an "Anyone But Bush" mindset which ultimately didn't spell victory.

In 2008, the Republicans are doing the same thing: "Anyone but Hillary." "Anyone but Obama."

They don't like McCain. It's that simple.

Now, I'm a Democrat, so McCain was never an option for me. But I am also a Catholic. And there is not a SINGLE Catholic Republican voter who, in good conscience, can vote for a candidate who sought the endorsement of a man who called their church "The Great Whore."

I reminded my evangelical / fundie friend of this and it only pissed him off.

So the "gifts" will be delivered when the voters who look at all both sides of the McCain coin say "no thanks."

11. I wish Hagee could wake up as a Jew in Nazi Germany
so he could see what a great "hunter" Uncle Adolphe was and how well he "shepherded" the Jewish people and other enemies of the State. Actually I take that back. I wouldn't want to subject anyone to that fate, not even a nut like Hagee.

16. A *LOT* of followers.
He was well-liked in the fundie circles I used to run in ages ago, and I'm ashamed to admit that at one time I, too, admired the man despite not agreeing with his Charismatic theology. Now I think he's a colossal heretic and a political opportunist, I get a sense that his true gods are Money and Power...the Jesus stuff is just window-dressing to placate the sheeple he gleefully fleeces every week.

Hagee scares the living shit out of me... :scared:

Your Vote Today Can Help John Hagee Sink John McCain

I just noticed that Sam Stein, on the Huffington Post, has picked up on my latest John Hagee video, which showcases an extended excerpt from a John Hagee sermon, which I believe to be (judging from its themes) from the late 1990's. Themes from the sermon were plied into John Hagee books published in 2001,2003 and 2006. The Huff Post story is, in turn on Digg. If you vote up Stein's Huffington Post story on Digg, you can help propell it towards the mainstream media by making it so big on the Internet it becomes unavoidable. AND, if you return to this post periodically through the afternoon, I will be putting up the story on other news ladders where you can also vote this up.

21. And This Too Will Pass...
The problem with Hagee is that Gramps and his lobbyists know he's a meal ticket...getting money and filling those church busses Gramps will so badly need if he stands any chance in November. Also, there are those in the GOOP that believe what Hagee is saying.

I'm not surprised nor even offended by what Hagee said...and I'm Jewish. It's not what he said, but how it's indicative of a large number of fundies out there who agree with him and renouncing him would be a slap in the face to a segment of the remaining GOOP base that Gramps can't afford to lose. Just turn on a TV on Sunday morning and you'll see several Hagees who profess similar "end of times" fantasies...Hagee is not alone and he speaks to and for a part of the GOOP.

22. WHERE THE FUCK IS JOE LIEBERMAN?
Where is that sniveling little shit? If Wright had said anything remotely like this, Joementum would clone himself so he could be on as many pundit shows as possible denouncing Wright's - and therefore, Obama's - anti-Semite view.

23. This my favorite part from Hagee's speech:
"Then God sent a hunter. A hunter is someone with a gun and he forces you. Hitler was a hunter. And the Bible says -- Jeremiah writing -- 'They shall hunt them from every mountain and from every hill and from the holes of the rocks,' meaning there's no place to hide. And that might be offensive to some people but don't let your heart be offended. I didn't write it, Jeremiah wrote it. It was the truth and it is the truth."

Hagee is interpreting the "hunting" of the Jews described by the Bible to be the Holocaust, and then in a swift one-two punch, soothes the consciences of his audience by telling them that it is the Bible's own writing, making it a forgone conclusion that his interpretation is the Gospel itself. He is therefore saying that the Holocaust should not offend anyone because it is mandated by God. Hagee is master of manipulation, poisoning his followers with violence and hate and crowning it as God's love.

24. Lots of wingnut religous Jews will probably agree with what hagee said.
Others will not. Religious Jews like to argue these kind of broad religious questions. Jews don't have one point of view. I'm Jewish. This will not have the same power that the Rev. Wright stuff had. It is too bad and I do appreciate these threads. But, it is a complicated issue.

25. What a disgusting man,
Any Jew or Israeli who thinks he's on the side of the Jews or Israel needs their head examined!

More generally, I find it hard to get my own head round the idea that such a person could have a serious influence on mainstream politics. Religious nuts EXIST in the UK, but they are very much on the fringes, and no leading political candidate would want to be associated with them. (Northern Ireland is a partial exception.)
