"Press 1 for a lower interest rate." WTF? Grrrrrrr....
I bet many of you have rec'd this annoying telemarketing call, which is why
I'm posting this here and wondering what you've done about it.

I am constantly getting this call. It starts off as a recording, saying
that I can get a lower interest rate if I press 1. Sometimes the recording
will tell me that my credit card rate will be going up and I have a limited
time to prevent this, and to press 1--to get the lower rate.

The first few times, I hung up. Then, I pressed one and immediately told
them to take me off of their list. They immediately hung up.

Another time, I pressed 1, and told them that I would like to participate, but
I was putting my little one down for a nap, and could I call them back. They
said there was no number to call them back. I then politely told them that
I did not want these calls and I wanted to be taken off the list. They told
me that I would be taken off the list.

They called again today. When I pressed 1 and told them to please not hang up
on me. I said that I didn't want these calls, and I needed to speak to a manager.
The person said, "Ok," but then hung up on me!

I *69'd them and the recording said the number couldn't be reached. I *57'd them,
and the recording said the call couldn't be traced.

What is this?????

Is anyone else getting calls like this?

Do you know how to stop them?

1. Caller ID and the Do Not Call list are your friends
Sign up for both. Then just don't answer calls from 800 numbers and places where you don't know anyone. Works like a charm for me.

5. I'm on the Do not call list...
...and on caller ID, the name comes up as David Smith. When I call
the number, it says, "This number has been disconnected."

I just called Qwest to ask them about this, and she said the phone company
hasn't been able to stop them, because they can't figure out who it is....but
that it's happening all over the country.

7. I had "Call Manager" for awhile...
If a call came in from a "number unavailable" or "anonymous" listing, a recording would ask for the caller to I.D. themselves. I got to hear who it was and then could decide if I wanted to "pick up."

It was great for weeding out undesirable calls!

I canceled the service for financial reasons, but now that I'm a little better off, I may re-subscribe!

2. You can't...it's an Identity Theft scam.
Been happening a lot in my neck of the woods as well. Watch out everyone.

4. Identity scam!
Wow, I can really screw with them.

I'll keep them on the phone for hours, giving them false information.

"Yes, my name is Patrick Starr." Yes, I live at 4254 Bikini Bottom Road."

If I can't get off of their list, at least I can have some fun.

3. I've gotton a couple calls like that, but not about interest rates
The last one I got was that my car's warranty was about to run out and I should press 1 if I wanted to extend it.....My car is 11 years old and I didn't buy an extended warranty on it when it was new.

The first time I got one of these, I also pressed 1 and tried to get the name of the company - though I made the mistake of telling them I was on the Do Not Call list and I intended to file a complaint. No surpise that they hung up on me.

My opinion is that the outfits doing this are just trying to get around the do not call list.

6. Yes, I'm actually getting those calls on one of the lines at work.
It rings down from another line to my phone, so I have no idea what number it is coming in on. Drives me EFFING CRAZY.

8. My son tells them that they are just who he wanted to
talk to then quietly sets the phone down and goes about his business. After about a half hour or so, he listens and they are gone. Meanwhile they've wasted money trying to sell him something.
