our friend has put together this site detailing his son's entry into the Marines and his deployment to Iraq. Check it out.

1. I read part of the PDF on the site. Heartbreaking. Will bookmark for later.

2. "Half my Heart is in Iraq"
I didn't even make it to the half-way point.

Heartbreaking.

Tears in my eyes, can barely type.

5. Read the part about George trying to talk his son out of buying a new car
Basically, George argues that his son can afford the car, but too large a % of his salary will go to car payment and he should get something more "practical".

To which Greg, so very gently, reminds his dad that he's being deployed soon and it may very well be his last chance to drive a new car.

The "conversation" is a series of text messages that George cuts and pastes into the diary and you can see Greg's point slowly dawning on his father. It's potent stuff.

9. My computer froze up with that PDF
file ... I'll try later.

The family support group gave me this when my son was deployed.

11. It's potent stuff, Breeze.
I hope you will be able to read it.

If not, maybe we can figure out another way.

14. We are trying to help out with the techincal support of this site
It will probably change (in style, not in content) over the next few days.

Consider this a rough draft, so far.

6. Believe me, George (the dad) struggled with it!
And still does, daily.

His point is that the solders are there and they need our support.

It's one man's very personal view of the system.

7. i just can't give them mine.
every single soldier that agrees to and continues to serve at the behest of this illegal regime extends and legitimizes their hold on power.

10. My best buddy
is a Lt. Col. in the Marine Reserve. Put in his time, Gulf War veteran, carrying on a proud family tradition, joined on his eighteenth birthday. He's so proud of his service, and I'm so proud of him.

That said, he has two young - 9 and 7 - sons, and he told me he'd send them to Canada before he'd have them gobbled up by this hateful occupation. He's prepared to resign his commission if he's called up, which is looking likely. He said to me, "The Republicans made me a Democrat."

Why anyone would join up in this time is beyond me. It breaks my heart that kids are sold such a specious bill of goods, just to become cannon fodder.

13. I was pretty dumb at 18, and I'm better-informed than average. I can't universally
condemn the decisions of teenage kids who often have few other options, are not well-informed, live in towns where all they hear is pro-BushCo propaganda, and are given all sorts of promises by recruiters.

Yes, there are some who sign up because they want to do horrible things and they think BushCo is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But plenty are just plain stupid kids making stupid choices. I hurt for them and their families.

23. Damn straight
those men and women serving deserve our support in anyway we can provide it.

It was a very personal view and a very good read. I have known several individuals that have deployed over there and one in particular we hooked up thru where I used to work. We set him up with the software used on site so he can login and talk to the folks he works with here in the states.

16. Thanks for the link - I am a mother of 2 who have served - 1 in Desert Storm & one this time around
It never gets easier. My sons went in for help with school. They did both get something out of it as it does give you points when you go for a job and the one son is going to take more college this fall. I was a lucky one with both of them coming back OK and unharmed, but there are so many others who come back with physical and/or mental problems that need to be fixed! We need to do much more for our guys and gals in the Military. 100+ temps and heavy packs all day. It is not an easy job by any means! Some of our Dems and Repub's in Congress sent them over the 1st time so it cannot all be laid on Bush, BUT he deceived and disgraced our country with his lies! For that he will have to live forever with it along with the rest of the greedy thieves!

Blessings to all the families of those who have and are serving! :patriot:
