Rove attorney Luskin mocks Conyers subpoena in letter
Edited on Fri May-23-08 05:34 AM by Amerigo Vespucci

"I do not misunderstand either the Committee's procedures or the scope of its interest in Mr. Rove; nor, in light of your reported remarks about the need for 'someone' to 'kick his ass,' am I the least bit confused about the Committee's motives and intentions," Luskin wrote. "I confess, however, that I do not understand why the Committee is threating a subpoena to Mr. Rove for information related to the alleged 'politicization of the Department of Justice,' when, as the Committee is surely aware, Mr. Rove has already received a subpoena for the same subject matter from the Senate Judiciary Committee."

"I also do not understand why the Committee refuses to acknowledge that, in these matters, Mr. Rove is not a free agent," he adds. http://rawstory.com/images/newslet/ltr.pdf">Read the letter here.

The subpoena comes on the heels of a letter from Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin, who told the Judiciary Committee Wednesday that the president's former top advisor would refuse to testify voluntarily.

"It is unfortunate that Mr. Rove has failed to cooperate with our requests," Conyers said in a release. "Although he does not seem the least bit hesitant to discuss these very issues weekly on cable television and in the print news media, Mr. Rove and his attorney have apparently concluded that a public hearing room would not be appropriate. Unfortunately, I have no choice today but to compel his testimony on these very important matters."

Reacting to the news on NBC, correspondent Pete Williams said that the Justice Department most likely won't enforce the subpoena.

3. So we now have a Congress that
cannot control or monitor the executive branch.

We have a justice department that refuses to listen to the congress (I also believe we have a judiciary who refuses to listen to Congress). So the only branch of government that seems to have any real authority seems to be the Executive.

My, my, my, what a difference a bunch of uber wealthy elitist republicans can make to a Constitution. Are we even a democracy anymore?

5. We have to have a Democrat as president just to have a Constitution?
And that Democrat dare not be a true advocate of the People against "organized money" (as FDR put it*), but has to please the Corporate Masters with "win/win" talk, or he or she will soon be, a) shackled with wild frenzies of frivolous corporate media generated 'scandals,' or b) dead.

The political spectrum has been narrowed to: fascism vs. nicer fascism. Those are our choices. How to rebuild democracy from the ground up is our historic task. Step one: Throw Diebold, ES&S and all election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor.' (--can only be done at the local/state level, where ordinary people still have some influence--Congress will never do it.) We MIGHT be able to elect a "win/win" Democrat (Obama) by terrifying the Corporate Masters with our sheer numbers (outvoting the machines on the bet that they won't outright reverse a presidential election again--it's too risky to the machines--don't feel that threatened by Obama, and will let us play at democracy for four years while they finish looting us and putting us in our place as just another slave labor force in their world, and then move on to looting China and India, after they've destroyed democracy in South America and regained control of that oil). So-o-o-o, if that's how it's going to be, go back to Step One--priority for an Obama administration is to throw Diebold, ES&S and all election theft machines into 'Boston Harbor' while we have the chance, and start electing REAL, FDR, "New Deal" Democrats, in REAL elections, to reassert our sovereignty as a people, over the global corporate predators who now rule over us but have no country--no loyalty, no patriotism, no boundaries.

8. Conyers should offer a resolution allowing ordinary citizens to place Rove under Citzien's Arrest.
