Boys 'enjoyed' killing two-year-old
Source: NEWS.COM.AU

TWO brothers, aged seven and nine, told psychiatrists they slowly, coldly tortured a two-year-old girl to death - a revelation that has Argentines debating whether to do away with a law prohibiting the prosecution of minors for heinous crimes.

Judge Marta Pascual said the children confessed to slaying little neighbour Milagros Belizan in a shantytown south of the capital.

"They understood her pain but it did not move them," Judge Pascualsaid after meeting with psychiatrists who examined the boys. "In some form it gave them pleasure."

Little Milagros disappeared from her home in the poverty-stricken Almirante Brown neighbourhood on Sunday. Her family found her body in a vacant lot 10 blocks away.

2. Little boys in poverty conditions we can't even imagine
And we wonder where they lost their humanity to do such a thing.

Hey, didja see ExxonMobil's profits topped 11 figures last quarter?

12. There are little boys
all over the world that live in similar or worse poverty conditions that do not torture and kill 2 yr old girls.

This cannot be blamed on any corporations "excess profits".

20. Who's blaming ExxonMobil?
Odd that you would draw such a conclusion from two such disparate statements.

But yeah, other kids in other countries don't do anything like this. It's a carefree existence in Darfur, the Congo, Myanmar, Afghanistan and Iraq.

3. 2 things
1 - the mother of those boys needs to be thrown in jail for the rest of her life for what she subject them to.

2 - these boys may be lost for good if they found pleasure in what they did. The pleasure angle raises this to a whole new level of mental instability. If they can do what they did and be numb to it and enjoyed it - they are mentally ill. It'll be a long time before they may be deemed safe to return to society.

Tragic on many levels. :-(

13. Yes, the mental state is the truly frightening thing.
Lack of empathy, be it in child or adult, is a danger sign. From what I understand, any such person has been brought up in disturbing circumstances, as these boys obviously were, but the question is what to do so that they can be rendered, well, humane. This is hardly the first such case where someone that young has engaged in such sadistic behavior, and against a younger child.

21. A long time? Try forever.
There are things that will make children lose their humanity, and that is irretrievable.

8. Well clearly, since there are TWO really sick pre-teen murderers
in the world, it logically follows that all minors should be considered the same under the law :sarcasm:.

15.  I was not responding to your comment (below the excerpt)
but instead to the lawmakers and debaters described in the article text:
a revelation that has Argentines debating whether to do away with a law prohibiting the prosecution of minors for heinous crimes

In my view, any 'murder' except for self-defense is "heinous". Protection of minors is well established in some country's laws. Their brains simply haven't fully grown or wired their intracellular network yet. Yet, stricter punishments for more than just these two boys is clearly stated as being debated.

Therefore, it follows that stricter punishments for all crimes by minors is being discussed as a result of these two murderers.

I don't see it as "jumping the shark" at all. Simple deduction combined with experience of how our world seems to work.

17. No society should try 7 and 9 year olds as adults
I don't care how henious the crime. 7 and 9 year olds who commit crimes like this need to be placed in a treatment program that addresses whatever underlying issues led to this crime.

I've worked with juvenile delinquents, and I really think that the age should be 16.

18. I don't think you can blame this on "society" or
their living conditions. After all, most of the boys in their circumstances aren't doing things like this. They are clearly psychopaths, and that is born-in, and no one knows why. We should just be glad they were identified before they killed thousands, like our so-called president.
