Kanjorski says Dems were insincere about ending war

Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) is seen in a video that has surfaced on the Web saying that Democrats “sort of stretched the facts” in the 2006 elections about their ability to end the Iraq war.

In a video , posted to YouTube on Thursday, Kanjorski reflects on the Democrats’ approach to the war in 2006 and said they pushed the rhetoric “as far as we can to the end of the fleet — didn’t say it, but we implied it — that if we won the congressional elections, we could stop the war.

“Now, anybody who’s a good student of government would know it wasn't true,” he said. “But you know, the temptation to want to win back the Congress — we sort of stretched the facts.”

The video was dated Aug. 28, 2007, by the person who posted it. The remarks are not placed in a larger context.

Republicans reacted Friday by calling for Kanjorski to apologize.

1. "Republicans reacted Friday by calling for Kanjorski to apologize." ?!?!?!
Pot - meet kettle.

The arrogance of the republican party never ceases to amaze me.

2. "Insincere" It's not just for shallow assholes like TV news readers anymore...
Now it defines the leadership of a major American political party. They kinda like "sort of stretched the facts" about having the power to end the Iraq madhouse.

Well, let's see. Pelosi could have simply refused to bring various funding bills up for a vote. She could have refused to change a single word in the list of benchmarks that caused Bushie to veto various drafts. She could have told him to stick it and pay for the damn occupation out of Blackwater's budget or Cheney's latest billion-dollar rip-off or ExxonMobil's quarterly profits.

But who would have ever imagined that Pelosi would just keep pushing Bushie's supplemental funding bills through the house and then watch as Reid -- too afraid of a GOP filibuster to raise a combative eyebrow -- would make every effort to accommodate the MINORITY party as it keeps right on rolling as if it never lost any seats in 2006.

And both Pelosi and Reid do everything possible to preserve that illusion.

How's Shirley Golub doing in the polls? Pelosi needs her ass kicked so hard that she suddenly realizes all those pro-impeachment, anti-occupation protesters who surround her Pacific Heights palace might just have a point after all.
